Imagine a platformer with the shittiest controls ever
« on: May 20, 2008, 02:17:27 AM »
sup lost winds.

Making me jump via the remote is stupid enough, but making it so I have to precisely make movements UNDER my character to perform double/triple "gusts" (jumps) is distinguished mentally-challenged. The idea is interesting, but the execution is a epic fail.

Still it looks better and is more fun than Boom Blox, and about 1/4 of the price so it's not all bad.

You're not enjoying Boom Blox? :(  I don't have it but wanted to get it one day when it's cheaper.

Sorry, I have no idea what Lost Winds is - I saw a long thread on GAF but I didn't really care enough to read it.  I wish developers would stop using sudden flicking and shaking of the wiimote or nunchuk for so many things.  It sucks.

you're right: waggling doesn't make things simpler, it makes things more complex, obviously.  because it gives you more dimensions of control, 6 axes (or 11 including the nunchuck) instead of 2 or 4.  the more dimensions, the more potentially intricate the controls.   that's why I like the concept of waggle, because complex sophisticated games > simple games.

the problem is that the wii remote is great for sweeping motions that require zero accuracy. anytime you're using it as a precise pointing device it fails miserably

Anyone who's played a reasonable amount of time on a PC game would laugh at the suggestion that the Wii Remote is precise.

Nobody should pay for this crap. Buy Zeruda and use Twilight Hack.

Lost Winds has nice graphics and serene music, the control isn't bad (if you try and play the game a bit like Canvas Curse), but the slow pace and backtracking is making this game a bit of a chore to play.  :-\

I do like the pointer best of all about the Wii.  It's no mouse but I prefer it to moving a cursor around with an analog stick and it works well in RE4, RE:UC and Metroid.

The motion control is good too when used right, but flicking and also pushing the remote forwards in space are the crappiest uses of it so far.
