Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess official thread!

The new 1up preview is up!

Read if you want, but it has spoilers for the dungeons. I went around the article avoiding spoilers and found the info that I found pretty damn interesting. The vastness of this game sounds so...awesome.

Quote
The opening hours of Twilight Princess, as it turns out, are contained within a tiny portion of the game world. In fact, most of the Ordon Wood events transpire outside the boundaries of the game map. Zooming out on the map screen to get a sense of perspective is rather shocking -- a little bit like leaving Midgar in Final Fantasy VII and realizing that the last half-dozen hours have been contained in a tiny corner of the full game world.

Quote
And it truly is vast. Nintendo tells us that Hyrule Field is roughly five times the size of its Ocarina of Time incarnation, and they really aren't kidding. The vast plain stretches into the distant horizon -- and Twilight Princess has some amazing draw distances -- its verdant expanse sullied only by the looming Twilight, which bisects the horizon like a curtain. A curtain the color of a bruise. The silhouette of Hyrule Castle is dimly visible in the distance, mired deep within the Twilight.

At this point, it's possible to branch out a bit. Although your goal is to head northwest from the Ordon's southward location, the enormity of Hyrule Field begs for exploration. The landscape rises and falls and rolls, with groves of trees and large rock outcroppings adding variety to the scenery. You can fish in the pond toward the center, and if you need bait for your fishing rod certain enemies will yield larva when defeated. The only disappointment here is that Hyrule Field stands as a casualty of the switch from GameCube to Wii: because the game environments were mirrored to make the control scheme more comfortable, the general layout of the field -- patterned largely after Ocarina's version -- doesn't register with the same nostalgic impact as it probably should.

Chris Kohler gives us more information on this vast world

More spoilerific (if you dare) info!

Remember! If you wanna post spoilers, tag it! If you are not sure if something is a spoiler...tag it!

Let me guess the future review score. Either a 9 or a 10.

I mean I dont need to read the review to know they picked someone to review the game who will shove the waggle wii wand up their butts.

I'm hoping and praying i will be sucked into it like i was OOT and MM those two games rocked. WW was crap in all directions. Seems that my complaints have been taken care of though. The game at least supports widescreen.

Guys, 1up Show has another sneak peak at Zelda: TP. If you missed last weeks, make sure to catch it because it has a lot of interesting stuff. They interview localization staff who have complete the game and it's really interesting.

Contains slight spoilers.

The gamespot live thing looked pretty good for zelda (wii demonstrations for today).  The widescreen and 480P is still way too big of an advantage and I didn't notice that the game world was mirrored until he crawled into a tunnel and it asked what direction you want to go.

That video is nice.  I'm impressed with even the smallest details of this game.  The sound effects when the wolf jumps from point to point are awesome.  I also like the sound when the wolf strikes at that flying creature.  So much attentional to detail.

From the videos it's clear that the lack of camera control is a negative for the Wii version. Many parts of the videos just looked strange, and the player was forced to keep recentering the camera just to see where he was going. Ugh

Stop bringing up this wii vs gc crap up because you can't afford a damn Wii.

I mean, your favorite game of all time Ocarina of Time has that issue. Why the big contradiction, PD?

How is it a contradiction? The inclusion of a controllable camera in WW is an improvement over OOT. It's one of those things that once you use it, it's hard to go back to the way you once played the game. Sort of like the camera in RE4; yeah RE1 kicked ass when it came out, but after playing RE4 can you really go back to the old camera controls?

It's a contradiction because OoT is your favorite game, so you really shouldn't mind how TP's camera is handled. Obviously you're used to it and it didn't stop you from enjoying OoT>

Yeah, because I didn't know any better. Wind Waker improved upon OOT in some ways. You're being thick; and I don't mean thick as in a nice, fuckable big ass. What's your favorite game? I'm sure it's some RPG sequel. Am I right in assuming more RPGs have come out since then that have improved on some gameplay aspects of the game? Today, don't certain aspects of the game feel dated when compared to newer games? Come on.

Wow, Phoenixdark is a jackass.  The only reason WW had a manual camera was because you had long areas of linear exploration (sailing) so looking forwards only would screw you over.

Yeah in WW it wasn't very intuitive to run and turn the camera at the same time.  Some games like Splinter Cell may need it but not WW when you were walking.

And? It made the gameplay better.

You guys are distinguished mentally-challenged. Control of the camera in Zelda is a godscend, and after using it I can't devolve back to to the days of not using it, waggle or no waggle.

Just like I can't go back and enjoy RE2 as much after playing RE4 due to the camera, or even FFI after using the ATB system in FFIV

What do you mean? Which part of the controller?

In terms of gameplay, I like being able to control the camera, and I'm sure the vast majority of Zelda players would agree that this is an area where WW surpassed OOT.

It's an addition I would prefer to use in 3D Zeldas, and it's inclusion in the Gamecube version is certainly not the only reason why it's the superior version :lol

You know, I still fail to see why I should shell out $250 for a new system for this one game when there's a perfectly good (if not better) version on the older hardware.  Especially when the new system isn't likely to have another must own game for probably a year.
