Author Topic: EB computer buffs - my laptop is fucked, help! (Read 2231 times)

Okay so I was dowloading some torrents last night as per usual, then suddenly my PC (Toshiba Satellite Notebook) didnt let me open any new applications. I double clicked some on the desktop and from the start menu, no reposnse from anything... so I was like Ok I'll restart the thing.

When it rebooted, even the bullshit antivirus start-up screen that I couldnt get rid of previously displayed an error message saying it cant open $:-\$ Aboslutey no apps will open whatsoever. Ive tried restarting 5 times. Windows is otherwise running smoothly and I can do most file managemt tasks still.

Can anyone tell me whats wrong here? Im guessing its a virus as it seems to be a really unusual problem... but I cant run virus purging software as no applications work

Will I need to format my machine? Help!

Maybe try going into Safe Mode? If that doesn't work, then theres a bunch of things that could have gone wrong :/

what torrents did you download?

You might have some luck running SDfix/Combofix in safe mode.

yeah hopefully Safe Mode sorts me out. My service warranty is still active so if it comes down to it I can get it fixed professionally

Combofix cleared up most of the noticable problems on my sister's computer btw. It still won't connect to my wireless router though, so I'm gonna run the other spyware/antivirus programs and reinstall her wireless card. Thanks Ecro.

I found the reciept for my laptop and it turns out I bought a 5 year service warranty for the thing, so Im sweet. Thanks for the tips anyways

make sure you delete or burn off all your illegally downloaded software and porn.
