It's happened to all of us for one reason or another, and despite our best efforts and intentions, we just can't finish it!

Movies, that is. Not necessarily bad ones, just ones that took you ages to go through - and even then, you probably never got to see the ending.

JFK (five times, fell asleep, never finished it)
The Year of Living Dangerously (five times, fell asleep, never finished it)
Steamboy (about a dozen times, but finally managed to finish it)
In the Valley of Elah (trying again tonight for the fourth time, but chances are after so many rum-and-cokes, I'll just fall asleep again - but I'm close to the ending now, so I'll probably eventually get through it)

Any of you guys go through this kind of experience with movies?

I have watched multiple seasons of various TV shows since I bought them, but I never seem to find the time for these two.

I dont think Ive ever "not" finished a movie. There are hundreds that Id never waste the time to watch again, no doubt, but generally, when I decide to sit down and watch something, I see it through.

I remember during JFK I was going out with this lady and we'd have, on average, sex about five times a day. So yeah, I'd just kinda nod off. It was great sex, but a bit tiring perhaps?

Not me. I'll turn it off and forget about it. Even some really terrible movies have kept me interested enough to sit there and endure it, but there are some where I just thought "i really CAN be doing something better"

But those are bad movies. I'm talking about movies that aren't necessarily bad, but they just "hit" you the wrong way, if you know what I mean.

most of mine are kids movies, because you know kids. they can't sit down for more than 5 minutes before they are already bored

Is that because kid movies are designed for kids to sit in five-minute intervals, or because your five-minute attention span is like that of a kid's?

no i mean i have to watch them, and after five minutes of starting the movie they already wanna do something else, so i have to turn it off and follow them

Oh wait, I turned off A Clockwork Orange after like 20 minutes when I tried to watch it 3 years ago.

I thought I remembered FotR as a cheesy but entertaining movie, but the last time I tried to watch it I just stopped halfway because it was so boring. I always considered TTT to be the best, lets see how that one holds up.

And RotK is the king of the 3 movies. The king of shit.

I can't get through Harry Potter films as I find them boring. Except I have got through the one with the hedge maze at the end. It took three days.

About 20 years ago I couldn't get through 2001 A Space Odyssey (the movie). I remember it being insanely boring. I was a kid so maybe nowadays I would find it better.

LotR 3 was at least an hour longer than necessary. And yes, although it was cool watching it in the movies, I haven't been able to finish any of the movies in one sitting on DVD at home.

Tried In the Valley of Elah again last night, and failed... $:-\$

There are tons of movies that I've only seen part of, but I've never consciously turned off/walked out of a movie before it was finished.

I like the LOTR movies but holy cow, 3 is frickin' long. I respect that they tried to include all the important stuff, but trying to watch the extended version in less than a week is a herculean task..

You're the first person I've heard of that shares the same thought. And all this time I thought I was losing it.

3 just dragged on and on... I think Peter Jackson wanted all three to be epics (around 3 hours long), when the screenplay for 3 was good for 2 hours top. They should've reworked the screenplay a bit more if their aim was to have the trilogy play out over a 10-hour period.

ROTK is way too long. I've never seen the last half hour. I've never seen past frodo and sam getting swooped out of the lake of lava deal. And it's the only one I don't own the extended edition for.

FOTR was cool for "Give up the halfling she-elf." "If you want him, come and claim him"
TTT was cool for the opening scene of Gandalf kicking ass
