He's almost 28-years-old.  She just turned 19-years-old.  They've been dating for like seven months.  She is going to go off to college.  He will likely be shooting a movie and then doing post-production in Los Angeles.

Winning formula for success, no?

That's not the terrible part. The terrible part comes about 5 months later. It's called divorce.

That's incredibly dumb.  If he's only 28, he should probably know that people really don't stabilize until their mid-20s, at least.

Also, women are at their sexual prime when they are 26; men peak much earlier.

Once she's 26, he'd better still be able to deliver the goods. Just saying.

19?

High fives all 'round!

I do think he's unequivocally distinguished mentally-challenged for getting married though.

I just think this whole arrangement will end in tears once she goes to college and realizes that she has had a narrow view of life and sexuality - only to sleep around on him.

The age gap isn't such a big deal once both folks are into their 30s, but 18 to 24-years-old is such a formative time in a young adult's life that it's impossible to gauge that the person you get engaged to is the same person you're married to a few years later.  I think it's silly.

But I also think the guy has huge self-esteem issues and is a few thousand dollars away in therapy bills from dealing with emotional issues that are key to a good relationship, so he's settling.

Sounds like maybe they wanted to do something that would cement the relationship before they spent time apart from each other.  That would be a bad idea.  Marriage should be a public announcement of a commitment that the two people have already agreed on and become comfortable with in private.

Tell your former friend he's a distinguished mentally-challenged fellow. Sometimes it has to be done, if only so you can bask in the glory of having been right all along when it blows up in his face.

No way would I ever get married again if the girl and I dated for any less than 4 years.  Hell, I wouldn't even begin to think about marriage before 4 years.  And that better be an amazing fucking four years, because if we had any big issues, you can guarantee it'd be a lot longer too.  What the fuck is wrong with people?  He's 28!  He should know better!  She's going to feel trapped and fuck someone else.

On a side note, I can't wait til one of my close friends gets married.  She seems to have some idea that if she feigns ignorance over her relationship issues and gets married they'll disappear or something.  And they've never even lived together or had to really rely on each other.  Sounds like a High School relationship!  Huahuahuahua  I can't wait til we have the conversation I have with pretty much all my married friends.  They'll call me up all non-chalant and talk about some BS and then all of a sudden they're going to lay all their marital problems on me.  All my friends do it since I was the first in our circle to get married.  And I tell them all the same thing "I've been waiting for this conversation.  I couldn't tell you all of this before you got married but..."

Just speaking from experience of hanging out with some married guys. Here's a tip though, other guys probably don't give a shit about hearing stories about your wife or your kids

She must be fucking hot because I can't fathom any other sensible reason for marrying someone as immature as a 19 year old.

The age gap is too great at this point in their lives. It'll never last.

It's really hard to gauge what marriage will work and not work. I've seen people do it the "traditional" way (people of the same age live together for 5 years than marry) and they fail. Then I have seen 3 month quickie marriages (people of different backgrounds) last for 15-20 years.

A successful marriage boils down to two people willing to put forth an effort to avoid and correct the "downward spiral" that marriage turns into (due to human nature).

My wife and I dated for 2 1/2 years before we got married, and lived together for the year leading up to the wedding. I can't imagine getting hitched after knowing someone for four months, and the huge age/maturity gap just makes the situation even more disaster-prone.

While that can be true, I don't find it's a guaranteed thing.  Generally speaking, them having a baby is a better indicator of the end of my friendship with them.

That said, one of my best friends has two kids.  But she knows I don't want to spend time with them and organises care for them if we're hanging out.  Which is pretty rare (she has two kids after all).

It was even faster for me; we dated for about one year before I officially proposed (she wanted me to ask her parents, very traditional!), and we got married seven months later.  The only thing that worried me was living together, because my wife refused to move in with me until we got hitched.  I explained to her that living together beforehand would be a good way to gauge if the marriage would be good, but she is quite traditional and didn't want do to that.  Thankfully things have been fine; the biggest problem was TV time and that got solved after I got a computer monitor for my games and such.

But getting married after FOUR months of dating?!  The large age gap?  Not even living together??  What the hell is wrong with these people?  This has "disaster" written all over it.  Hell, my wife and I hit it off so well together, that after a month of dating I told her I liked her so much I would marry her, but that wasn't LITERAL.   :lol

Some people fall deeply in love and wind up together for a very long time. Problem is, that doesn't apply to many 18-28 year olds. I have a friend who falls in "love" with two guys a year only to suffer heart break a few months later. She blames herself for the failure but in reality the guys simply aren't interested in being with one chick. It's a vicious cycle and I'm glad I avoided it thus preserving the friendship. Relationships don't work when you're that young. There's no point

I don't understand how people can be together for months and then decide to get married. I just can't comprehend it at all.
