Let's see, you can get the Xbox360 or PC version new for $37.50 or $30, respectively, or you can get the PS3 version for $60. Hmm...this is a tough one...

I still have my notes from E3 when I first saw BioShock, the guy said -MAYBE- PS3

You heard it here first, BioShock was in development for PS3 since 2006, PS3 remains impossible to code for

I bought it off of steam. It was cool at first. Never did finish it. Hacking and the other mini games got boring and repetitive. I wish I could gift it to someone.

so Bioshock 2 is 2009 (spring/fall/summer?) and Bioshock PSTriple is coming relatively soon, right?  It'd make no damn sense to put them out so close to each other.

One of the best rentals I've ever bought. The reviews were all sorts of fucked up though; for all the talk about how the game reinvents this or revolutionizes that, I was surprised to find a very pretty but rather basic first person game that failed to go beyond, and in some cases even measure up to, the legacy set by the developer itself, and also Ion Storm's Deus Ex. I'd call it a masterpiece in its own right though, but not for all the reasons most commonly cited by game critics who seemingly began playing games in 2001.

Hey, weren't they supposed to have an infamous preview in this issue? With Gears and Bioshock on the cover, it must be either a tiny preview or simply not in the magazine. Fuckers.

Good for the stubborn or poor PS3-only owners I guess, but I have to confess that I'm more excited thinking about what the hardcore PS3 fans are going to do when Take 2 inevitably shits the bed on the port job.

I never did get the "poor PS3 only " owner sympathy knock. I have a PS3 and a good enough gaming PC and I'm totally content.  In fact, I bought a PS3 over a year ago knowing that all the good 360 exclusives will come to the PC anyways with a better frame rate and higher resolutions. I'm an IT pro anyways so its my hobby to keep a nice PC.  I'll never get why people try to belittle others for their gaming preferences.:maf

i thought all the PS3 users played the superior PC version on their amazing PC rigs that suddenly appear whenever an X360/PC game turns up?

the same one that mysteriously vanishes when games like UT3 hit the PS3?

Nah, see, people bought the PS3 version of UT3 because all their friends were going to pick it up for that system. Now here is a golden opportunity to really step it up a notch and say "but wait, I thought PS3 owners didn't care about online community", but you fired the salvo too soon.

At least us "gaffots" don't have to pay extra for MP regardless of affiliation between PC and PS3 or both. I'd rather be called a cigarillo and a ni**er for free.

It's like a repeat of the last console generation.  Xbox is where it's at for online play and they have a community, but you have to pay.  Playstation online is free but feels lacking.  And Nintendo has a few games online and it's all kinda "eh."

Quick question, slightly off-topic:

Must you pay to play with XBL? Isn't there a silver service which, gimped as it is, at least lets you hook up with friends?

For GoW on the PC, I used the silver (free) Windows Live account to play coop with a buddy (as coop is all I have time for - I simply can't dedicate hours to any single game anymore so in mp games I just get pistol whipped). What then is so restricting about the silver XBL account?

In-game xmb would be great, but I don't see that happening anytime soon. Nor VCD (mpeg-1) support for the 600 odd VCDs I have. Nor region-free DVD viewing (wtf am I going to do with half my 500+ movies that are from region 1 when my PS3 only plays region 3 dvds? I thought the bastard was region free - turns out it's for the games only. Bastards!)

OK - so on the 360 you can't even play online without gold? That sucks.

On Windows Live there are other restrictions (ranked matches, for instance) but you at least get to play online for free.

well, with pc they have one hell of a competition and it's a different territory all around.

if they want people to pay for gold on pc they basically have to beat valve/steam.

and WHAT an amazing service you get on PS3...

Other than the lack of more unified community system, PS3 online has so far been perfectly serviceable. Maybe it's just because I don't have the same need others have of constantly being in touch with a community (this goes beyond just online gaming), or that I'm used to the wild variation and lack of standardization in PC online gaming, but at this point I wouldn't pay a cent for these added features. If it actually extended to assuring the smoothest game experience possible, sure. But not for services. I guess it's a matter of preferences and priorities, as I also really don't play games online enough to warrant a subscription to a service.

AA, I really see no point to playing online if I can't talk to my friends. I don't care about being connected to 'the community' but I do want to know if my friend is on, or if he sent me a message, so I can GAME with him. That's what online is all about! On PS3 if I'm playing GTA4 then I can forget about switching to Warhawk unless my friend actually calls me and asks me. It's distinguished mentally-challenged. I don't just turn  my console on and sit on the dash/XMB waiting for someone to come on and play with me, so if I can't talk to them or see them when in a game then playing online is totally useless outside of pre-planned games.

on 360 silver is for everything but online play.

on games for windows silver is for everything but pc-360 crossover online play.

They really need to implement something like that on the XBox side. And bump up the friend list cap and other perks for Gold users.

But like DC said there's no reason to when the competition offers a plainly inferior service. I have a friend who got a Core 360 for free with purchase of an HDTV for black friday and never hooked it up because he already had PS3. He asked me to show him the XBL interface and the HD movies/tv shows yesterday and he's gonna finally buy a hard drive and hook it up.
