As I said on GAF, I'm not sure if I like that high contrast bloom style.  It's kind of gaudy, and at worst, it makes the screenshots look blurry and indistinct, though I am sure some people will say IT'S TEH ART STYLE.  It is hideous.  Maybe it looks better in motion.

actually it doesn't look better in motion for one reason:

same old RE4 animations.

here is hoping this new trailer will show new animations.

If I was to guess, I'd say that they were originally balanced for print, and that no one bothered adjusting them before releasing them as screens. Just a guess, but its consistent with how I would tweak photos for print purposes.

If it wasn’t for the new features the game would read like a massive re-skinning job, but thanks to the inclusion of God Hand’s dodging abilities and a fully integrated online co-op story there’s enough on the new features front to avoid those damning accusations of cashing in on the same idea.

Quote
Like Gears, the entirety of Resident Evil 5 features jump in/jump out gameplay with the AI taking over the reigns of our mysterious female mercenary when you’re playing alone.

Quote
New to Resident Evil 5’s combat system is the ability to lock to a wall and fire around the corner.

Quote
With all this excitement it’s easy to forget the rest of the package. Resident Evil 5 doesn’t just feature a story; there’s the returning Mercenaries minigame and a whole host of other extras that are still safely under wraps. We’ll admit to being just a wee bit concerned when it was revealed Shinji Mikami would not be heading up the production of Resident Evil 5, but in spite of this loss on the development team the game is looking like the ultimate game of the series.

Well, RE4 enemy animation is still pretty high up there in terms of presenting lifelike enemies. The most recent RE5 trailer looked damned good to me, and this was in large part due to movement of individuals in the mob. There's also a specific scene where one of the characters is approaching the camera and wielding a knife, I don't think I've ever seen anything quite so lifelike in a game before.

Agreed.  :lol

I'm not a fan of over-the-top HDR/tone mapping normally because it obscures dark or light details. But I love it in this game since it emphasises the the light and heat.  Plus, even though it looks extreme, it seems that dark areas don't just get crushed to black and vice-versa with light areas.

Even if this game is just RE4 on steroids, it'll still be the greatest thing ever.

Co-op?  :hyper x 1,000,000.

I don't know what to say  :-\

Then say this is the great news!

Co-op is great when done well (Splinter Cell:Chaos Theory, Gears of War, SWAT 4) and at worst it can't hurt.

Keep in mind there was a lot of bitterness over RE's switch to a non-Sony platform.

Of course, all was forgiven when RE4 made its way back to the PS2 with new content.

I'm an old-style RE fan (if RE5 turned into old-style, I wouldn't complain).

But I love new-style RE just as much.

The thing is, you can't poo-poo Capcom for having co-op. It's nice to have as an option.

If you don't want co-op, don't play co-op, and problem solved!

I think co-op will be awesome once you've been through it alone and had the usual awesome RE solo experience.

I don't think "scary" works anyway. Moments of dread, sure, but "scary" in video games is one of those things that just plain doesn't exist.

You mean RE5 is going to have confirmed NPC AI (hand-holding), or are you speculating at the possibility?

I'm not poo-pooing them - thought that was clear. My faith in their decision-making is pretty high, given that RE4 is one of my favorite games ever.

That labyrinth level in Doom2 where there was this big-ass door and you just knew there was something really bad waiting for you on the other side, but you had to open the damn door anyway so you could move on to the next level.

Opened the door, and there was this cyberdemon. I ran like  a sissy scared, but it was a maze, it was claustrophobic, the hallways were narrow, I had no idea where I was going, and all I could hear was the growls and footsteps of the cyberdemon stalking my sorry ass.

That frazzled my nerves enough to hit the power button on my PC. That was the only time I've ever been so scared with a game.

Of course, I was also much younger then, and 3D graphics were virtually unheard of then. Playing a marathon session until 4:30AM in a pitch black room didn't help either.
