The PC Gaming Alliance Speaks

Month in and month out, the PC game charts seem to be dominated by The Sims and World of Warcraft. Do MMORPG's hurt or help the PC games industry? Put another way, does the Alliance feel that subscription games help or hinder PC gamer budgets?

Stay tuned. The PCGA intends to paint a realistic picture of the entire PC video game industry.

I really want to know what this realistic picture is, because we only ever see what NPD offers in terms of sales rankings; there are no hard numbers, no percentages, and we have no idea of what the European and Japanese (Asian) markets are like.

Having said that, check out the guy's equipment:

Do you yourself own a console? Which one? And what games do you play on it, versus the PC?

Yes, I own several game consoles, however I am not going to answer this question without providing details about my PC arsenal as well. Keep in mind that I am the head of a six person household, most of which are long time gamers…

Consoles: XBOX360, Wii, PS2, GameCube and Nintendo 64

Notebook PC's (6): MacBook Pro 17", Dell XPS 1530 (Black), Dell XPS 1710 (Red), Dell XPS2 (Black), Dell Inspiron Notebook and a Motion Computing Tablet PC.

Desktop PC's (5) all are DIY: Core2Extreme(QX9770)+9800X2+4GB, Core2Quad(QX6600)+7950XTX+975x+4GB, Core2Extreme(X6700)+8800+X38+4GB, Pentium 4 3.6+5900+2GB, Core2Duo+965G+2GB (used for TF2, AudioSurf, Sims2, Webkinz, Audition and ClubPenguin).

Media Center PC's (2): Higrade DMS 60 and HP Pavilion M1075

Console Games Played: Whatever we can get for a few weeks on Gamefly (we have pretty much stopped buying console games)

PC Games Played (by me): Team Fortress 2, Portal, AudioSurf, CoD4, Crysis and COH

PC Games Played by rest of family: WoW:BC, Audition, KartRider, Sims2, Webkinz, and ClubPenguin

Our Watch list for 2008: Spore, Age of Conan, Warhammer Online, Crysis Mods, Wrath of the Lich King and Hello Kitty Online

Not to mention anything about the guys taste in games, or his priorities in life:

Finally, name your favorite PC game.

Team Fortress 2 (I wish I was playing now instead of writing emails)…

At least it seems they picked the right guy for the job. Just hope he does more promoting and a bit less playing perhaps...

With a name like that, this group is destined to reek of failure.

Yeah, as much as I like PC gaming, it's just wishful thinking that this alliance will actually accomplish anything. Since the initial announcement three months ago, this is the only bit of information they have fed the press with.

They have a forum on their website; it's currently down, because I guess that's because the last time I checked they had less than 20 posts.

Some relevant links:

With such big names backing up this alliance, this is all they have managed to do in three months? Seriously, why even bother launching the site and the press conference? A whimper instead of a bang.

Or maybe this guy leading up the alliance is too busy racking achievements in TF2 to give a damn?

Anyhow, I would be pleasantly surprised if these guys got their butts in gear and actually delivered on their promise of "developing and promoting solutions that drive the PC gaming industry forward," but I remain skeptical.
