My cat spontaneously died
« on: May 25, 2008, 01:16:11 AM »
Fairly young cat (6 years), seemed totally alright last night, found her dead in her favorite sleeping spot this morning. I guess she must have been dead for a few hours before I found her, because she stunk like a seriously eggy fart. Have any of you experienced this with your cats? I've had my fair share of pets die on me, but nothing this unexpected and sudden.

That's fucked up dude, sorry to hear that.

Probably just a freak natural thing.

Or it ate something poisonous or otherwise disagreeable.

My animals have all died by being run over by a car or attacked by another animal. I don't think I've ever had one just die. I'm not sure if that's better or worse.

We had a dog who was basically dying for two years (inoperable tumor) and then overheated one day and had to be put down, and somehow that steady slope into oblivion felt more reasonable than this. I read up on this a bit though, and it sounds like it might have been heartworm, which apparently is very hard to detect and can go without any real symptoms until the cat keels over. Weird stuff. God damn mosquitoes.  :(

That's so sad, I'm sorry. :(

We've had that happen with small pets (gerbils, hamsters, guinea pigs) but we had our dog put to sleep when he got really sick and there was no recovering. My first cat is still alive--her kidneys are failing and have been for two years, but she's still kicking, knock on wood!

That seriously blows. Sorry to hear it.

Our family's previous cat died in my arms. He started making loud groaning meows, and acting weird in the middle of the night, and while I was was trying to get a vet on the phone, he expired. Pretty sad.
Turned out the poor guy had cancer, and at least he went (relatively) quick.
