The new Indy Jones was pretty much a live action Tintin

John Hurt did a dead on Professor Calculus.   I forget the exact tintin where calculus lost his mind but it was DEAD ON.

Indy's new pal was like a traitorous Captain Haddack.

It honestly felt like a live action Tintin mixed with crappy serials from the 50's.  The sets were so bad, it had a big rubber snake, this movie oozed with smart camp.  It is the biggest gamble in filmaking I've seen in ages.   What a smart piece of schlock.

THE best parts in the movie were the Snake scene with the big lifeless Ed Wood snake gettting tossed in the air, 2nd best was the monkey scene.  So over the top, stupid tongue in cheek pulp.

I had no idea the movie was that over the top.  Insane.  I bow down to this film, it is the first indy jones that actually felt like a true pulp.  Temple of Doom was a failure in that regard.  This was way better in pulling it off.  I still love the semi-serious tone of 1 and 3, but good god this movie was daring.  The set pieces were so bad, the accents so cruddy, the on rails action scenes..  Everythign was just so deliberate.

The fridge scene was insane.  Fucking insane.  What balls.   8)

Speilberg/Lucas = huge BALLS  8) 8) 8)

This was tintin + B movie alan quartermain serials.

Tintin's tone is less goofy, this was an insane mesh of the two.

It had the worst set pieces in history.  So fucking awesome.

My favorite running gag was after anything bad happened, like a car wreck or the waterfall, or falling down the pyramid thing, was that the very next shot would have everyone on the ground in their places, getting themselves up and dusting themselves off.

The jumps between live action to cgi/stock footage(yes there was stock footage) was just brilliant homage.

Balls, this movie has real balls.

When you guys watch it again, check out the scene where the russians start to rappel down the mountain.

The live action shot is so obviously NOT on them on the edge of a real cliff, it didn't even try to look like a cliff.  It was a big rock.

The cave set pieces, inside the pyramid.  It was all paper mache.  WORST SETS EVER.   Lame movie style Spiderwebs fucking everywhere.  I love the balls on this film.

Some other funny scenes, the mayans all shot dead, only one had a visible bullet wound.  So great.

The group dynamic of the leads and the pacing was 100% Tintin.

the stereotypes were really well done too.  The Russians were way hammier than any nazi from any indy film.  It was quirky, self aware and totally camp.

I think it's pretty obvious you never read a Tintin
