Yeah, it was absolutely phenominal. There isn't a game that can match its atmosphere.

What will it look like compared to the 360? Equal, better or worse? My bet is on equal (no discernible differences or comparable trade offs).

What is the exclusive content? Does it warrant another purchase?

I have this for the PC already. Is this exclusive content for consoles only, or will it make its way through to the PC? (My bet is on "unlikely".)

System Shock 2.

System Shock 2 was just  downright frightening.

For "atmosphere", Clive Barker's Undying.

System Shock 2 isn't any more frightening than Bioshock, which wasn't at all.  I've gone back multiple times now to SS2 and it's really kinda laughable how people could've been scared by this game....of course I remember feeling chills the first time I played Doom back in '93 so I guess anything is possible. I've been much more creeped out by games like Condemned, Thief, and Fatal Frame.

But yeah, Bioshock definitely has atomsphere, I'll give it that.  I just have absolutely no desire to ever go back and revisit it though.

Those are PS3 screenies right, McDragon?

Waiting for the obligatory 360 vs PS3 comparison. You know it's going to happen.

Is System Shock 2 still worth a playthrough?

I always wanted to play Deus-Ex and System Shock 2. But I don't think I can handle the graphics.  :'(

Undying is one of my favo games ever. And I still enjoy playing it, even if it looks like poop.

So I guess I'll put SS2 in my backlog. Deus-Ex maybe. I've played a bit of Invisible War on my Xbox. Didn't really liked it..

who cares, already played it. If my PS3 didnt play blurays it'd be on fire right now. Exclusive content is the equivalent of the free color tv old people get with their shitty bed.

Absolutely.

Both games DESTROY BioShock, Oblivion etc. and other next-gen RPGs when it comes to atmosphere, scare factor, dialogues (logs lol) and even music.

Just up the res to 1600x1200, turn on 8xAA and 8xAF and try to stomach the (really ugly now) graphics.

The problem with re-birth is that it makes the enemies look absolutely ridiculous.  Take a look at the midwives model for instance.  I was pretty excited about that mod but I quickly got rid of it after a few days because of the shittastic art, and I hardly ever do that.

Rah rah rah PC gaming and all that, but I prefer Bioshock to SS2.

Better atmosphere, I think the game works better with a stronger emphasis on combat over RPG stuff, no weapon degradation.

I do miss the exploration, and Shodan was a more interesting bad guy.

But, while they both have atrocious, hilarious boss fights, Bioshock's is just a little less atrociously hilarious.

I think my draw literally dropped when I first saw the boss of SS2. I just couldn't believe I was chasing Shodan around some sort of merry-go-round, lobbing grenades at her.

I got tense playing Bioshock, but I freaked-the-fuck-out playing SS2. I literally jumped out of my damned chair when I turned to find a pitch-black, chittering form next to me, where I thought I'd cleaned the level.

My Brass Balls run through Bioshock pointed out exactly how scripted the game was. I don't think there are any random encounters in the whole game; it played almost identically to the first playthrough, and that was pretty darned disappointing.

Bioshock and SS2 are in the 90% of horror games that are only scary for the first 2 levels, because by then you are more or less the most dangerous thing in the mansion/space station/underground city/spooky town/abandoned military base/etc.

Once you're rocking a shotgun and a fat bag of shells these "scary" monsters become cannon fodder.

They can still get you from time to time by leaping out of a monster closet, but that's not really horror. I guess. I don't know.

Bioshock was awesome but the game just didn't know how to end.  This plus no real consequences for the "choice" or real plasmid build paths means the whole point of the game is basically the "would you kindly" moment, and therefore it has little replayability IMO.  Still love the world they imagined there tho.

Yup.

All killing Little Sisters or saving Little Sisters does it determine the order you get your plasmids in.

I was disappointed to find out you didn't have to "build" characters, like a plasmid heavy caster, or a mainly gun using dude with back up style plasmids, or a melee stealth style guy, etc.

Irrational excelled in creating a fantastic yet highly believable, contained game world, and that's all I really feel like giving the game credit for. The first person combat felt clunky and dumb, and I thought it was quite nauseating to see the game receive credit for its supposed groundbreaking features and pioneering attitude, as if the choices ever went beyond basic combat ability or carried any level of moral weight, be it in terms of consequences for your actions or story branching. It's well behind a game like Deus Ex in these regards. But hey, that's what's Alpha Protocol is for, so I'm not going to piss on Irrational for accomplishments that the "press" has decided to credit the company with. It's certainly a very inspired and atmospheric experience.

Yeah, I don't get how the game was groundbreaking.  But I LOVED the gameplay and atmosphere.  Even when it got repetitive, the atmosphere kept me playing.  One of my favorite games of all time.

Deus Ex is so much fucking better than SS2.

SS2 is the kind of crappy game that does a few things amazing right. So people love it like a puppy, but only because they don't play it anymore. They just remember the good times, not hunting for a repair tool every 5 minutes, or the fact that every fight is just running backwards while some zombie chases you or dodging fireballs DOOM Imp style.

They just remember the Shodan reveal and the audio logs. They don't remember the boss fights. No one ever talks about the boss fights.
