Did you even read what I posted in response to your first post?

Locke is still on the island though, how could he be on the coffin? True, he could have gotten off the island serendipitously like Ben did, but so far we haven't seen him, and plus it would raise questions like "Hey, how come you were declared dead after the crash, but now you've died again?"

I never said it wasn't Locke, just that it was unlikely based on what we knew for sure then. And based on what we know now, it's likely he did get off the island in the same way that Ben did (using the machine) and he got around the questions of him being alive when he should have been dead by changing his identity to Jeremy Bentham. Your only contribution was "LOCKE IS IN THE COFFIN BECAUSE JJ ABRAMS HATES HIM! SCREW YOU ABRAMS!" Just because that turned out to be right doesn't mean anything, because that was only one piece of the puzzle.

They aren't just picking random philosophers.  John Locke is one of the first philosophers who helped conceptualize the idea of "natural rights."  That is, inalienable rights to life, liberty and property.  Jeremy Bantham rejected the idea of natural rights in favor of utilitarianism.

At first I assumed that the next season would start with the Oceanic Six returning to the island, but then I realized there were some important details that prevented that, namely that nobody knows where the island is and that not all of the O6 people WANT to go back.  So there will have to be some episodes of them working towards getting back.  Does this mean the format will be that the "current" scenes are of the island after the O6 leave, and the flashes will be of the O6 fighting to get back?  I suppose that makes the most sense, but there are problems.  The O6 storyline would be boring, especially since we've already seen a significant portion of that very struggle.  In this case, it would be in their best interest to get them back on the island ASAP, and doing this would ruin their flashy structure, since it would kinda suck to have both the current and flash stories taking place on the island.

I think we may learn more about Waaaaaaaalt next season and what we learn may also apply to Aaron. I don't think the island takes his form once in while for no reason and I don't think he was in the finale for no reason, plus he has to go back to the island with the O6.
As for crazy speculation, maybe things fell apart after Jack left because he was part of the family and the island got all pissed off or something. Remember that scene in Jacob's cabin where both Christian and Claire were present. Maybe "they" want Jack (and Aaron) back to complete the family. Do you think we'll find out what happened to Claire?

As for the format. the season may start with the O6 and company on the Island and the flashbacks would be a combo of how they got there and what happened when they left.

My predictions for next season;

- the wheel moved the island in time back to the era where the ancient civilization discovered the island (remember the ruined foot of the giant statue)

- The show wont have any more flash forwards/backs - instead it will be on/off the island for the flashes.

- It will show a bunch of the ancient civilization stuff, and a bunch of the OCeanic 6 + dead locke + ben trying to get back to the island.

I imagine next season will be the off-isle adventures of the O6, specifically in regards to Widmore's motives, Ben's pursuit of Penny and the hijinks. This will be blended with the "terrible things" that happen on the island, ala Jack and Locke tribes this season. I'd expect the finale to be the O6 reuniting and Season 6 to be the back to the Island season.

Lost is so fucking good. This is the fourth season, a show shouldn't be this good that long into its life. It shouldn't get better either, yet it does.

The Lock story should be interesting. Why did he get off the island? Because he's the person who most wanted to stay on it. What made him leave? And maybe when he did, the island said "fuck you, you can't leave me, I leave you: legs be gone!" *poof*

I still think season 1 of Twin Peaks holds this honor.

I was talking the other day with MAF and Drinky about how far serial TV has come in just the past 2 decades.  From the primetime soaps of the 80s, to Twin Peaks, to the X-Files, to Buffy, to Lost.  It's amazing how much progress has been made in the medium in just over a decade, and unlike most things, it seems like the new "generation" actually learns the lessons of the predecessors.

Also, I'm not really counting cable.  Not much appears impressive in comparison to the HBO stable or The Shield.  The Shield is the most compulsive show I've ever watched.  Lost gets me hooked, but The Shield makes me TENSE like I've just done a lot of blow.
