Elite XC this weekend on CBS
« on: May 29, 2008, 08:38:41 PM »
Anyone watching? For those who don't know, Elite XC is a Mixed Martial Arts organization. This is the first time they've been on network TV, but are basically a bunch of UFC rejects or just who can't make it there. Still, at least its free, unlike the ridiculously crappy UFC PPV coming up they dare charge $40 for.

At least Kimbo has been training with Bas Rutten. Sucks they're putting him against a glass jaw like Thompson.

I understand the reasoning behind these fights but it's fucking doomed to fail. No one knows who these guys are, none of them would be competitive in UFC and UFC is showing the Liddell/Silva fight from New Year on Spike AT THE SAME TIME.

Yeah..Kimbo isn't exactly the most well rounded by any means, but Bas is no scrub. I just wish Elite XC would stop feeding him people who are tailor made to boost up his record. Still, I'd reckon he's improved hugely on the ground since he first started training, and his stand up seems a bit tighter. I don't understand the levels of hate he gets from Sherdog -- depending on where his BJJ and takedown defense is in a year (and assuming he beats some legitimate opponents) I could see him landing in the UFC. God knows that their ever-waning heavyweight division could use some new life.

I see Thompson running out at the bell like a complete distinguished mentally-challenged fellow, only to lose a la Aleksander vs Thompson early in the first round. I'll be watching though. Let's see if Gina can actually make weight for once. She gets awfully big in between fights.

GAF can't even compare to the amount of stupidity that is generated by Sherdog on a daily basis.

its pretty close

although sherdog gets rather stupid - nothing beats their "LOUL NO ONE WANTS TO SEE SHAMROCK V TITO" tirades. thank god they dont run an mma company. if they did it would be worse than the IFL

Even assuming you're talking about the gaming side, sherdog is far worse than GAF.  I haven't actually glanced at the sherdog forums in over a year, but I assume it's still just as bad.

Even so, sherdog doesn't even come close to the cesspool that was fightsport.

Anyhow, it looks like this event is set up to fail.  The card is pretty crappy, and the event isn't selling well.  I got nothing against Kimbo though, he's a cool dude (and trained by my original martial arts instructor, Shawn Tompkins).

Gina is going to get KTFO'd by Kaitlin Young tho.

Because the only fights I'm interested in at WEC 34 are the championship bouts. And I've never even heard of Miguel Torres' opponent :(
