So it's nearing the end of May and soon most of us will be basking in the bitchin hot days of lady June. In this thread list the games you actually finished this month and write a very brief review of them.

Games I finished this month:

Ys VI:Ark of Napishtim- 20 hour game with a really fun, real time battle system, challenging bosses, good music and graphics that are sub par for PS2.
I give it:  :dur :dur :dur out of 5 for gleeful fun!

Ys Oath of Felghana- One of the most fucking kickass of motherfucking oldstyle new action RPGs with a bitchin soundtack that will fuck your earholes until they cum their lobes off! Each boss battle was like having sex with a rabid S&M superstar!
I give it:  :gun :hump X100 for a highly fuckable action game
 :bowGame of My Month
:bow2

Gargoyle's Quest - A 3 hour, mildly difficult Gameboy game with eerie music, annoying random battles and a laughably bad translation. Holds up better than most GB games.
I give it:  :whip :whip out of 3 nostalgia points.

Gargoyle's Quest 2 - A tougher, longer, random battleless sequel with decent level design and unmemorable music.
I give it:  :ninja out of a  :pirate since it's for the more skilled players out there.

Arc the Lad - A 10 hour SRPG that had nice sprite work but lacks in challenge, depth and length.
I give it:   :-\ out of  :D since i heard it leads to a far better sequel.

"Games so shit I didn't want to finish them" list:

Shining Soul (it's like having a veeeery slow lobotomy)
Bubble Bobble PSP (an awful travesty of a sequel)
Legend of Heroes (there's only so much bland genericness I can take)
Altered Beast GB  :pissShit of My Month :piss2

"Games so shit I didn't want to finish them"

Zelda Twilight Princess
Metroid Prime Corruption
Army of Two is getting there. Not necessarily "shit", just a chore at this point.

Phoenix Wright 3 - awesome ending to an even more awesome trilogy. Sad it's probably the last game I'll play with Phoenix and the gang. I started PW 2 years ago, and I beat PW3 recently.

Contact - game gets a lot of shit, but I really liked it, and the ending was brilliant.

NGDS - awesome action game, this is how action games should be done on the DS. But... way too short.

Contra IV is probably the toughest Contra game since Hard Corps. It took me at least eight hours (over the course of two days) to finish the game on normal mode. Seriously, even the first level is totally brutal -- the pop-up turrets remind me of those in the first level in the original Contra, but they're so fast in Contra IV that I sometimes die even as I anticipate them.

Admittedly, there is some rather unnecessary difficulty associated with the dual screen layout, but it's very rare and I'm glad for that; I was amazed that the dual screens didn't bother me much at all. In fact, most levels cleverly take advantage of the setup, especially where the grappling hook is involved. The grappling hook is vital for some of the bosses as well, but like all boss fights in the game, some are very well designed and others fall flat. I was particularly disappointed with the Contra III Terminator homage -- it's super cool how he chases after you in the hallway, and the ensuing decapitation is even cooler, but the method for killing him is totally vanilla, especially if you have a machine gun. Speaking of which, the stacked weapons were a great idea (and occasionally create some great risk/reward dilemmas), but the double machine gun is just broken. I mean, with it you can't even enjoy the second boss fight (one of the best in the game) because you kill the alien almost as soon as it starts. That boss's entry was awesome though -- the creepy shift in music totally took my mind back (once again) to the Contra III Terminator boss.

As for the music, there are definitely some good tunes but it was nowhere near as impressive as Contra III's amazing soundtrack. The way the music slowly crescendos as you move from miniboss to miniboss on the last level is one of my favorite parts of Contra III. I do know that the music on hard mode in Contra IV is different, and from what I played of it (the first three levels), it is better than the normal mode music. Oh, and I don't know jack about the DS hardware, but the audio quality sounds worse than the Super NES.

Finally, the challenges are a sweet addition, although I only completed enough to unlock Contra and Super C. It's my little sister's DS, not mine, so I had to grudgingly leave it behind when I left home last weekend. This was the first game that ever made me seriously consider buying a handheld for myself though, which is something I've never done because I dislike playing games on such small screens and I generally think the games are well below the standards of the best home console games anyway. Handheld or not though, Contra IV is the real deal.

I think I finished Condemned 2 in April, but eh.  I loved it (even more than the first which surprised me a bit).

Combat -  much improved from the first game.  Getting into a rhythm was pretty important to a successful fight on hard difficulty.  Overall, the gameplay felt great.

Difficulty - I decided to play on hard, and it really added to the atmosphere.  I got pretty tense almost every time I came across an enemy because I knew it could be the death of me if I couldn't keep my rhythm in a fight. Checkpoints are fairly well placed so I never got frustrated.

Characters - even though they changed the characters which I was a little disappointed with when first announced, the technical construction of the new characters' faces is fantastic.  Voices were great.

Story - kick ass, I didn't mind the end of the game at all, unlike some people.  It kept me really interested.

Ace Attorney 3 as well.  Loved the final case.  So much twists.  4 out of 5 stars.

Still slogging through VP1 and Blue Dragon.  Fun games, but I just can't find the time to sink into them.  Love JRPGs, but hard to find the time to play them.
