Sooooo, Silence in the Library

What did the forum Whovians think?  People at the Doctor Who forums are kind of disappointed that it wasn't as creepy as Blink, but I kinda loved this episode (well, as long as part 2's payoff is satisfying).  There was a lot going on and it was pretty atmospheric, and it felt like it was setting a lot of things up, like the data ghosts, the things going on in the house, the archaeologist that knows the Doctor, and the almost mythological pontifications concerning the vashta nerada.

It does have a bit of a familiar feel to it, though.  The vashta nerada are reminiscent of the weeping angels from Blink, and the Doctor talking to the little girl through the television set is similar to both Moffat's Blink and The Girl in the Fireplace.  The repetition of a catch phrase is reminiscent of The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances.  In some ways it feels like Moffat's greatest hits, and normally this wouldn't have me concerned, except if he's repeating himself already, should I be worrying about him taking over the show completely?

Overall, really excellent, can't wait til next week, and I've already watched this four times :D

I think I have to watch it again.  The archaeologist and her relationship with the Doctor made me think of Girl in the Fireplace more than the little girl in the TV set.

I was really hazy on what exactly the vashta nerada are, and didn't really appreciate how vague the Doctor seemed to be about them.  Maybe it's meant to build suspense, but it just felt like they were trying to draw things out a bit much.  At first they are just evil carnivores that live in the shadows.....now they can possess some dude's body?  Something about them has a weird "we made this up as we went along" feel.  The Blink angels were mysterious but by the end you really knew their abilities and their limitations.

What do you think the little girl is?  Maybe some kind of AI construct that is a part of the security system....but can't be made self aware because it could be corrupted or something.

RANDOM:  Has the "eye stem" ever been singled out as the Dalek's weak point before?  I thought that in new series continuity they were pretty much impervious to physical harm.

I thought this thread would actually be about people being noisy in libraries.  :lol
