Good god, Jesus man! Rome + Expansions, Medieval 2 + Expansion. These are fucking awesome. I enjoy the Historical aspects to these the most I think. It's pretty damn sweet.

The British have had custody of Jerusalem for about 500yrs so far in my campaign, even though I've been excommunicated by the church for invading the French and the Danes. :P

Good stuff, highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good RTS. :bow

The Total War games aren't without their faults, but I really enjoy them anyway because they are both pretty accurate with history and thed base gameplay combination of turn-based strategic map + real time battles gives some good context to the battles you are undertaking.

My main complains with the series are that the long campaigns are too long and tedious-by the time you get 25 proviinces or so as the micromanagement needed in each one makes even ME pull my hair out, the AI is as dumb as a brick even on hard and cheats too much on VH, and the games in general do an exceedingly poor manner of documenting a lot of very important stuff, which means you are always finding out new thing that sure would have been useful in your last playthrough when reding Total War Center or what not.

I've been playing some M2:TW lately myself though, with the Stainless Steel 6.1 modification. The updated AI is much better, and the other changes made make the game a lot more palatable for me, even though the length of the game is a bit longer.

I played the M2 expansion a lot this weekend.  My best campaign (I hate micromanaging more than 10 territories for extended periods so I just pick goals for myself) was Norway in the Britannia expansion.  The start provinces you get are awful since they make little money, are underdeveloped, and even if you do make a lot of progress against Scotland it really sucks when William Wallace shows up.  I said fuck it, destroyed all my buildings for cash, and sent all my decent units on boats to SE England.  Since they're at war with Wales and Ireland at the beginning they have nothing to defend with.  I go 20,000g in the hole while transporting all these units but sack 8 provinces in 3-4 turns (including London) and end up wiping out England just as gunpowder is introduced (about 30 turns, I think).

Total war shogun was fun back in the day. I hated the battle scenarios though. I just like to manage my empire.
