So, coming off the roaring success of Puzzle Quest: Challenge of the Warlords, I was sure that godman CEO Steve Fawkner would find more money than he's probably ever seen thrown at his company, and in turn they'd have the chance to make some killer pseduo-hardcore titles beyond match 3 puzzlers with light RPG elements. His company's record of stellar hardcore game design goes back for a very long time-they wouldn't have any problems securing some funding for a good hardcore game now, would they?
So let's check out their new project!
http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=144454Never heard of Neopets? Then you're probably not among the more than 11 million unique visitors to Neopets.com each month. It's a Nickelodeon-owned online community of people caring and raising virtual pets. What might prick up your ears, though, is that Capcom has secured the licence and set Puzzle Quest developer Infinite Interactive to work on a videogame version for Wii, PC and DS, due out this Christmas. The result is Puzzle Quest with cute animals and Reversi/Othello instead of Bejeweled as its puzzle component.
The Eurogamer hands on mentions that the game is simplier and has less complexity than the already very simple Puzzle Quest.
Ugh, licensed mascot drivel being designed for the two machines that appeal to people who eat up mascot driverl. I'm sort of upset that we can't get something like a real DS Warlords game or even new news on the web-based Warlords game instead. It's sad to see good hardcore gaming developers stuck scooping nintendo gamers' poop like this. :'(
