100fps would only ever make sense if the user was working with a CRT at 100Hz.  On an LCD, hitting such a framerate means lack of vertical sync.  I simply don't understand why anyone would prefer to play that way.
Most professional gamers used CRTS a few years ago.  I don't know how it is now though since the monitor market has changed so drastically.

Regarding DMC4, I think the console versions dropped too much in the forest level for Vsync to make any difference.

Still, I'll take another benchmark with Vsync on to see if it can still maintain 60fps throughout.
You will be able to maintain 60 fps throughout.  I only have one 8800GT and had no troubles doing so (though I experienced some minor drops at 1080p, it was perfect at 768p).

Which console version did you play?  I tested both of them in the forest level and found that slowdown was much more severe on XBOX360 for some reason, but both had their share of slowdown there (which is why I assume the PC benchmark in the forest is more demanding).  It's a shame they didn't further improve the shadows, though, as they are still ugly (not as ugly at least).

Neither, except for the demos.  I don't bother with console versions if I know there's going to be a PC port.

For example, I just returned my PS3 Burount:P yesterday.  I only know about the forest issues from forum gamers.

Aren't there 120Hz LCDs nowadays? Wouldn't that allow you to game at 120fps with Vsync (provided your hardware was capable)?
That's not how those displays work.

Ok, I did another benchmark with vsync on.  This time I did it in XP wtih DX9, 1920x1200, 8X AA and everything on Super High.

Apparently, locked 60fps is only worth a B.

Yep, same results.  I noted the whole B thing earlier.  Doesn't make sense.

It certainly looks smoother with v-sync on, though, doesn't it?  Try comparing side by side and it becomes obvious.  The higher numbers add nothing.

I don't understand why they designed the benchmark comments to work like that.  The game even OFFERS an actual 60 fps limit in the option menu.  That's the way it's meant to be played.

I got shitty tearing with vsync off.  Nobody responded to my post of gripes, so I guess I was the only one seeing some flaws.

anyway, I was on 169.15 beta drivers, just updated to the 175 WHQL drivers, hopefully some of the issues I ran into were solved.

edit: The B thing makes me question the Benchmark a bit.  Also, in the last scene it was clearly dipping to the 30 range towards the end, yet the FPS counter didn't pick it up. ?

Hey dark1x, why is Kuro awesome? (i.e. worth paying 2 x the price over a competing LCD TV)

Not that it really matters since Pioneer has decided to stop making plasma Kuro TVs.

WOW.

Seems like a really nicely optimized piece of code.

Capcom showing lazy western console devs how to do PC ports.

I don't like the AA they offer...it makes things more blurry.  4xSuper-sampling through the nvidia control panel ftmfw.
