Yeah, having a non GameStop job with lots of overtime pay kicks ass. This is why. Holy shit I want this TV.

And, for reference for later use, the model is the LN23A550 Samsung.

Not trying to be a dick, I'm honestly curious on opinions:

Is it even worth getting a 1080p TV if it's only 32"? You'd have to sit ridiculously close, right?

The TV does look pretty sweet though. :D

keep saving, man.  i think you can get a 42" for $1200.  no reason to settle for a small t.v.

Like? I love this thing. My only problem with it is that I can't play games with a lot of static stuff on screen for too long because it's a plasma. This has only been a problem with XBLA games so far (Ikaruga, Pacman CE, Mr. Driller, etc). Mr. Driller is the worst offender. The actual play area is only like one third of the screen. I still play it like an hour to and hour and a half with no worries though.

Nothing.  You just have to sit closer to see the difference.  it's fine if you live in a small place.  4-5 feet from it would be about optimal at that size

I want one to take to college... 32" is about as big as I can get.

Any bigger and it would be too big for a dorm room or to transport easily. I also want the contrast ratio, and Samsung delivers that.

plus, I really like 1080p. A lot.

I'm getting it in a month. My plan is to have at least twice the amount in the bank before I purchase it.

32" is fine unless you have it in a big room. Looks sexy.

I don't know; I have a 20 inch Bravia that does 720p/1080i and a 19 inch monitor that can do 1080p, and I can definitely see a difference when I play games.

And $900 for a 32 inch is too much?  My Bravia cost about $800.   :'(

Bravia KDL20S2000.  It's probably that much because I'm outside the States.  Prices in the U.S. are cheaper.   :'(  Love the TV though...it's got a beautiful picture.  My only complaint is my apartment doesn't seem to get HD channels, even the free broadcasts.   :-\

Check your plasma's manual if you haven't yet. Most recent non-budget plasmas come with an image shifting mechanism that prevents burn-in. It's not just games that cause this problem - TV channels are notorious for burn-in thanks to their logos permanently shown in the corner of the screen.

Remember that the bigger TV you get, the more room you need. Don't get a 42" if you'll be sitting 5 feet from the screen.

Exactly my point. I'm going to be playing in a dorm room, or my room at my dad's, which is smaller.

This is what's keeping me from getting the 37" model.

Honestly 32" might be pushing it. The 19" I have right now really fills the center of the room.

It is hard to play games from my bed though. And, I really want a 1080p set that also has a tuner inside it. Right now I just have an HD monitor (also Samsung, the SyncMaster 940MW) that the screen randomly turns blue every once in a while, making me get up from across the room and smack it. Fail.

This TV should do nicely. I might get it in three weeks. My dad wants me to save cash, and I'd rather not piss him off since I'm living at his house at the moment.

I've never had any problems with TV channel logos so far. The only times that I've ever worried about getting burn-in was when I fell asleep watching a DVD and the menu was displayed on my TV for hours. It didn't take long to go away though. Besides that, I never had a serious problem with image retention. I'm just paranoid. I only notice IR after playing a game like Mr. Driller if I look at the screen when it's all black. It goes away quickly when I start watching or playing something else.
