quick question about lettuce
« on: June 07, 2008, 02:05:20 PM »
I got some packaged lettuce in the fridge, the final date is 3 June, but the lettuce doesn't look rotten at all. Is it ok to eat it?

Yes.  You can eat it.  Freshness dates are based on statistical estimates.  Trust your senses more than some formula.  If this was meat, fish, or dairy then I'll be a different story.

If it's not brown, mow it down.

Products such as lettuce have "best by" dates, which means after the specified date the optimum flavor or taste may be less than ideal, but doesn't necessarily mean it's off.

Products with "use by" dates mean they shouldn't be consumed for potential health and safety reasons.

I don't drink milk that is 1 day before the final date. Milk ends up tasting awful fast.

lol, back when Maji and I used to share the same office, I'd have him drink any questionable milk before I'd use it in my cereal.  It was one of his job descriptions.

Those were the days :gloomy
:lol

wtf kind of person would drink the milk

People in the dark ages lived to be like 20, and they ate some old fuckin food sometimes.

I think when people are too anal about bacteria their stomachs can end up weak because they never have to deal with any bacteria.

That's my theory anyway backed up by solid anecdotal evidence that I have a friend who is over-the-top about bacteria and she gets gastroenteritis every single year.  And it's getting worse each year - been to hospital the last two times.  And she's not careful because of the gastro, the gastro came later.

Whereas my stomach is super tuff.

Don't have either of those atm. And I never eat PBJ anyway.

I'm eating this rotten lettuce, I don't care if I die.

Bump to ask how bad of an idea it would be to eat a piece of pineapple pizza that was left out all night. It smells so good :(

Leftover pizza is awesome, and therefore exempt from mold. EAT!
