I could've already told you that the world's fastest computer processor in the 80s was the Cell, which all PS3 owners have the pleasure of using today. Technology moves fast. In 20 years, same with this computer, 'cept it won't be some spare parts strung together. More like a quantum computer lol.

Well technically the vast majority of those chips are improved versions of the cell chips.

Study nuclear weapons?  Honestly, what else needs to be learned other than they blow up really good?  Is there some other application that I'm not seeing here?

Uh, maximizing target damage (selectively) while minimizing the less favorable, less predictable side effects? There was a good movement towards testing nuclear weapons for the purpose of making the weapons "cleaner" that was unfortunately crushed under the weight of super-power dickwaving and peacenick protesting.

the article actually said it was to make sure that the units would still work correctly after aging.

I hear that it even has a more powerful GPU than the PS3.  That's right--they ponied up for a Riva TNT!
