I'm glad I get this one, cause it just happens to be a masterpiece.

I "get" MGS4 just fine, but it just happens that its not even one of the better entires to the series, aside from gameplay/graphics. Plot-wise, its like HK let the fanboys write this one.

yup - you'll spend a decent amount of time playing without cutscenes during act 4, but you'll spend most of the time at the end watching.  Act 5 is most story scenes.

alright, act 4 is done, here are my thoughts on the story:

first of all, the beauty and the beast, unlike the past games the bosses here are like...fillers, they serve no purpose whatsoever.

i don't care about their shitty stories (OMG SHE WAS TORTURED AND NOW SHE LAAAAAAUGH CRRRRRY RAAAAAGE), nor do i enjoy fighting or hugging them for that matter, this is by far the weakest shit in the game.

Honestly, they are hardly different from The Cobra unit of MGS3 in that regard.  The first couple Cobra fights were crap and the characters served no purpose while even the great Cobra fights were still characters that basically were disconnected from the plot (excluding The Sorrow, of course, though that was hardly a boss "fight").

Well, yeah, they were basically designed to be mindless war machines.  That was the point.  Whether or not it worked is a different matter.

They injected more personality into the Cobra unit, but they meant just as little to the main storyline.

Each group was basically tailored for the atmosphere and design of the game world, I'd say.

yeah the whole love story between Naomi and Hal was silly.  I can understand Hal getting attached because he's a lonely nerd and we've seen him do that before, but Naomi?  I mean that game made it seem like they spent a single night together and that was it.  Maybe that had a really good talk or something, or maybe Naomi was just really lonely after spending 10 years in captivity.  Either way it made for some eye-rolling scenes.

They were pretty much displaced in a world without active war and at least they had ties to the Boss. The B&B stuff was annoying as its fighting each PMC's mascot then listening to Drebin the Wizard weave a tragic tale. I kind of wish their story had been presented during the fight with Drebin narrating throughout but only if you were running it through the bluetooth headset or whatever.

I'm still not sure how anyone can determine which MGS game has the least reprehensible story, though I suppose the first one was decent enough until Liquid shows up and starts ranting on about genetics. 2,3, and 4 though.....oh brother.  I just gotta shake my head in disbelief at the people that honestly and truly enjoy this.  It's one big pile of steaming nonsense wrapped up in a very pretty package....like Mormonism.  MGS is the Joseph Smith of videogames.

I rank 1 the worst because the whole I Killed A Boss, Now I Get To Hear His Life Story thing is terrible.

That happens in EVERY Metal Gear Solid game. It's a tradition. Why did it bother you so much in 1? Personally, I found the the stories of the B&B's to be the worst of the series' bosses'.

oh well, whatever.  in any case, somebody at Konami has really awkward taste. 

In my honest opinion, if Kojima kept the cutscenes to a minimum, he could've created a full game that nobody would disagree on.  More set pieces, more action, more locations, more fun situations, and even a better executed online mode would push this game to legendary status. I can't bear to think about how much time was spent animating cut scenes and how much disc space is occupied by conversations. but we'll need to wait for Sub-something, if it comes out.

You don't need to track her. Be patient. Pick up a spot, have your camo at 90% minimum, and wait for her. A nice spot would be the empty place opposite the one where you start, behind the building.

Lay down there and wait, don't draw attention, don't try to kill Frogs. Just wait, she will appear (You will start hearing her), then when she pops out of the machine and starts looking for you with the rail gun, nail her in the head with the sniper. You don't even need to run away if you are far away enough and have at least 90% camo, she won't know where the shot came from. Then you wait some more and repeat.

i crawled down under a tank and waited for her to come to me, when she attack you with the rail gun her body will be exposed, use the solid eye night vision to see it and shot her body with a sniper rifle.

you have to be patient but no worries, she will always come to you and she won't be able to attack you while under the tank.

The year has another 6 months to go.

Anyways, its the best thing so far this year, but at the same time, 3 of the 5 acts are "meh". So while another game this year may not hit the heights of MGS4 at its best, I find it hard to believe that something more consistently great won't come along before the end. Through Act 1 and 2, MGS4 is worthy of all the hype, but Act 3 thru 5 really are inferior.

I think Act 1 and ACT 2 are the best because of the gameplay.

ACT 3 is cool because it has an awesome chase sequence, but overall is super weak from a gameplay perspective. ACt4 is cool because it's shadow moses. Act 5 is shit because there's barely any gameplay.

Gameplay wise, this is not the best game of the year at all. Grand Theft Auto 4 has more gameplay in a third of it than the whole of MGS4, that's why it pisses me off when i read that official thread.

It's not that i don't like MGS4 better, i do, it's my fav game this gen, but it's not the best game, not at all.
