I can sorta understand how that might not be so much if you're in New York or Beverly Hills, but fuck, I'd happily take that shit in a heartbeat!

Wealthy means more than a salary--it also means possession of property, an absence of debt, etc. My ex-GF made literally twice as much as me, but due to unfortunate circumstances had a lot of debt she was paying off; this meant that in practical terms, I was more "wealthy"--I had more money I could spend, more I could invest, etc. Still, it was weird having to loan her money every once in a while when she overextended her bank account.
Well, I would definitely think you were richer in spirit, at least.
