My sister's friend (they are 16, I turn 26 tomorrow) has a big crush on me (at least according to my sister) and she just asked me to friend her on Facebook. I don't want to encourage her, but I can't bring myself to actually snub her with an "ignore" either. I was thinking I'd wait till I'm safely halfway across the country and then accept, but now I'm not so sure. (isn't having a HS girl on your friends list, other than relatives, kind of creepy?) What should I do? Maybe if she really is infatuated with some image of me I can use it for a good cause by getting her into Marxism or something.

eh i'd politely decline, and instead meet her irl - to tell her you're a grown man, she's a child, it wouldn't work and could give you unwanted street cred.

I sorta think hundreds of friends is more pathetic than 16 (if you don't actually have hundreds of friends). I'm using Facebook to communicate with people I know, not to rack up social gamerscore.

Yeah, I have a few EB folks in my facebook friends, but only the ones I feel I "know" to some degree.

Anyway, after a bit of thought I decided the best policy was to apply the same standards to everyone. Since in general I only friend people I know well or find interesting, and I've only met her a few times and we never actually talked much or anything, there's no reason not to ignore her friend request. Even if she is cute

My sister's a thousand miles away anyhow, no need to worry what she thinks.

I have a lot of people on my list, but most of them I don't talk to. They all added me. Facebook is annoying, I mostly jsut talk and argue with the same few people I am close friends with IRL.

upon reflection, I think the whole thing is probably mostly a sort of prank she is playing on my sister. at any rate, I finally succumbed to continued pressure and added her. my career as teen heartthrob begins now. I hope my publicists' Photoshop skills are up to it.
