Nintendo has destroyed my favorite hobby.  All we can do now is enjoy the next couple years of real gaming and then move on to something else.  Carpentry? Pottery? Watercolor painting? I dunno, we'll figure something out.

All this means is the next gen of Sony and MS consoles will be $300 instead of $400-600.

Third parties still know where the love is.

Waggle may be a pain, but I also don't think Nintendo came out with the optimal solution for a pointer device. And personally, I think the two-part controller design is the way to go, as opposed to the two-handed brick design that is unfortunately the current standard.

I'm sure you will change your mind once you get one for yourself. Isn't that sort of what happened with you and the 360?

Yeah, but waggle is a different kind of animal.

Actually, when I think about it... my biggest problem with the Wii is the 7-year old hardware they put in it.  I love the immersion that incredible graphics and animation gives you.  If the Wii was just as powerful as the 360 and PS3, I'd probably own one right now.

The other big issue is the type of games on the platform.  If MS and Sony use their wands for casual shovelware, like what 90% of the Wii's library consists of, then I want nothing to do with it.

Why would they do that? Nintendo doesn't use their controller for casual shovelware.

Well, if the previous rumors are correct, the device will likely work with Killzone 2. And presumably then, every other future (and obviously better) FPS on the system. Although, Sony does have a pretty decent amount of talent available for making wackier and quirkier games, so I'm not counting out the "casual" (or perhaps super-hardcore) value of the controller quite yet. And doesn't it still have a internal sports studio? I don't know what Microsoft is going to do though. Turn Rare into a mini-game sweatshop? Rely on contributions from indie companies and individuals working with XNA?

Why the fuck would you wanna use a dual handed controller for Killzone if it doesn't have a pointer?

Uh, supposedly it does act as a positional device, only obviously not using Nintendo's proprietary tech.

The better question would be, why would you want to play Killzone 2?

Nope, don't see it, I see a lot of games with high production values that were polished well, regardless of whether or not they appeal to your tastes.

It's like Spider-Man 3 and Turkish Spider-Man. Both may not appeal to you or the rest of sensible humanity, but one is a piece of bargain bin crap.

And for the record, I'd take a two-part controller over a single clumpy device any day of the week. Pointer or no pointer.

Other "reports" have suggested that it's a lot more than just two accelerators.

Yea, the split on Wii is great.

Hopefully Sony doesn't just crack a Dual Shock in half, and instead redesigns each half. I don't know how well traditional 2-shoulder-button shit would work without the firm grip of a brick.

No. Why bother with forceful innovation when one device can bring something fresh to any number of existing design formats?

The control system, said the source, actually consists of a smaller-sized device that can attach to the body - and multiple devices are intended to be used in concert, such as wearing two on the hands to move a character's hands in-game, or four, on hands and feet at the same time to move a character's body.

Though the source admits the technology might have evolved since the last time it was seen, the source disputes the idea that any of these pieces merge to form a single controller. It is also unclear how the individual pieces will be packaged, whether individually or in sets.

Sounds like Sony is applying the same line of thought to waggle that they did to the rest of PS3 hardware. More. Bigger. Faster. Stronger.

They have lost sight of the Japanese way. This is why they are doomed.
