The NPD Group has just told us that Boom Blox sold a paltry 60K units and was ranked #25 for the month of May. Considering the great reviews in addition to the hype this game received for its connection to Spielberg, we are more than surprised by this lackluster performance.

To emphasize the sad, sad state of affairs for Boom Blox, 60K out of an installed base of 10.2 million is barely 0.6 percent of all Wii owners in America.

All the publicity, mainstream media talking about this, and the marketing concerning Spielberg "making a game" didn't do shit!

Just what percentage of Wee-Wee buyers are fucktards who just get it to play Wii Sports and a game with homosexual Nintendo mascots every now and then to then never touch this piece of trash again?

you don't realize how important that is, it means that on Wii save for Nintendo's own franchises, and to a much, much, MUCH lesser extent, iterations of notorious franchises where a gimmicky, waggle-based control scheme is publicized (those often being ports of older games)... NOTHING will sell

it means that real games will always continue, what the hell are third parties expecting when they flood the market with generic shit that is supposed to sound like "party", "golf", "puppies", "ski", "bowling" or anything of the sort?

it means that the customers see piles upon piles of generic game cases at Wal-Mart that they can't even begin to distinguish from one another and the only viable options for them, the only games they're going to pick en masse are those that are clearly made by Nintendo

Boom Blox, Zack and Wiki, and No More Heroes, although the latter was Suda 51's best selling title to date. That's the only Wii games I can think of that deserved to sell a lot more, but didn't.

Common threads among all these is either that they were priced too high, had almost no marketing push, were incredibly niche, or a combination of the three.

I don't think I recall seeing the mythical "heavy marketing" or whatever for this game, which makes sense since it's not the sort of game you throw huge marketing dollars at.  Its problem is, it's a niche title that no one including hardcore puzzle players or whomever is buying this game would have gotten, if it weren't for the amazing reviews.  Plus it's $20 overpriced.  Games like this, where you can't immediately comprehend why it may be interesting or fun, need demos or something along those lines to sell.  Casual games in general (as well as their platforms) need demos IMO.
