Yes a clusterfuck of almost epic proportions. Its fun, but it feels like it needs more time in the dev oven for sure.

My thoughts after two days of gameplay:

the sign up system is complete bullshit
you have to sign up with a KONAMI ID and then a GAME ID, all this being seperate from your PSN which is apparently not good enough for Konami, god knows why. Im thinking its because they want to nickel and dime you to death, which brings me to my next point...

you are given ONE character per PS3 system, changing user accounts makes no difference.

to create a new character you must PURCHASE A NEW SLOT from Konami (I have no idea how much it is but that doesn't matter)

following that, when you create a character, you are given PLENTY of options for customization, HOWEVER BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU CHOOSE, because you can NEVER change those items again. Its fucking ridiculous. Made an all black character and want to switch to green clothes instead? TIME TO PAY KONAMI

AS FOR THE GAMEPLAY, here are my main concerns:

1. you constantly spawn near enemies - should be unforgivable in any post year 2000 shooting game, Ive found my self spawn killed multiple times in a row, they stand behind you right before you get ready to move, then they take advantage of...

2. incredibly easy headshots - its so ridiculous how often and easy you can get insta-kill headshots, so often one might wonder if the upper torso is the whole hitbox. I cant count the number of times me and my enemy have double ko'd thanks to this business

3. the skill system is shit
- when you create a character you are given 4 skill slots to pick and choose out of a list of skills. These include things like skill with knives, assault rifles, CQC, scanning abilities and such.

Each one has a level of 1-4. You are given no indication of how or if you got points towards leveling these skills up after a match. Just some red bar that moves at a snails pace when you check the skills page once in a while. I assume when it gets to the end it levels up the skill. But ive been playing for two days and each skill is only 2/3rds of the way to the end

4. the controls are near identical to the single player portion of MGS4. That said, they really should have changed a few things. If you have a  gun equipped and press L1 it brings out the gun and centers the camera, this is good. But when you have a knife out, it does the same thing, usually moving the camera away from the person you were about to stab, making it hard and awkward. Small things like that.

5. there is no option to quit the game during the time between rounds once the scores are displayed -minor, but sometimes once I finish a game I really don't have any intentions of sticking around and dont give a shit about my scores. slightly annoying.

...

that said it can be an pretty fun game when it wants to be, there are very few things more satisfying then hiding in a box as an enemy runs past you, you jumping out, grabbing his throat and pulling him into the darkness as you choke him unconscious. Ive heard with level 3 knife skills you can also slit their throats I wouldn't know because it would take forever to reach that.

Ill try to post more positive impressions in my next few posts

ha Im sure if I wanted I could find more faults, but I covered the obvious

little things like how if you dont run in a perfectly straight line you slow down a bit and stuff like that annoyed me at first, but that can be written off as MGS STYLE

God, ever since I first played MGS2, I've always thought a multiplayer MGS game would be the most badass thing ever.

Sucks to hear that they've fucked it up a SECOND time.  :-\

I liked it the first time around but mostly because of the badass snake vs everyone mode!

Hmm well I think its far from perfect but its IS pretty fun when people arent exploiting the obvious issues I brought up. Its like the shooting in MGS4, but without the emphasis on stealth. There is a game mode where one person can play as snake and uses the octocamo but other then that there is no stealth stuff other then box/barrel hiding.

Did you try the beta, Viz?  Most of these issues were present in the beta.

"In Session 058 of 'The Kojima Report' with Ryan Payton, it was confirmed that there would be a starter pack of Metal Gear Online included with Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of The Patriots.[8] This comes with both the standard and limited editions of the game."

Wait, is it just a demo? I'm confused

I did not, no ( ihad a code but decided against downloading)

but if they were then why would they not have been fixed?

ive heard people talking in game about how the controls are better than the beta controls (btw to talk you have to hold select, another minor squabble...)

its like 5 maps but nothing seems locked out like a demo would have. it says new maps are on the way for download and some more mgs characters to play as I guess. nothing suggesting a radical change in gameplay in the future

The 'starter pack" is the full game. What they plan to do is microtransaction the hell out of it.

the beta was kinda fun. unfortunately it seems like nothing changed.

scrolling through your inventory just like you do in the main game is a huge pain in the ass. giving you the option to quick switch between a few things isn't really good enough.

and wtf at not being able to change you appearance? that is just lame as all hell.

another thing, so if you have multiple people using the same ps3 you've got to use the same login id unless you pony up for another? dayum konami am greedy!

How the fuck do I register JUST a Game ID?  I have a Konami ID and see no option for just the Game ID.   ???

the beta was terrible IMO.  I haven't even touched it from the retail box yet.  Probably won't.

Has the wrong password, lolz.

I think the game is better than the beta.  Control seemed smoother; might play it more, but frankly it doesn't have the appeal of games like Lost Planet Colonies, Halo 3, or CoD4.

I played MG:O about all night. I've got about 7 and a half hours logged into it. It's way more fun when you're playing with decent people who are all using microphones. I've got my blades skill maxed out at 3, CQC at 2, and Runner at 2.

MGO is amazingly fun.  The whole sign up process and not being able to change your colors (I want to change to black colors when I'm in darker maps.  Let me do that.) is really stupid, but the gameplay is a lot of fun.  I played the Beta for like 20 hours or so and only played the final for about 9, but they did improve things.  No longer can you whore out with the knife and expect everything to be fine and there is a stable frame rate.  Leveling up is also faster than it was in the Beta.

And the skill system is great.  It isn't like CoD4 where people who play the game longer have more options (like that fucking Martyrdom perk), but they really just enhance the way you like to play.  If you want to be a pure sniper and lvl that skill all the way to lvl 3, you could only have one more lvl 1 perk.  Right now I have lvl 2 agility, lvl 1 CQC, lvl 1 knife.  I do have lvl 2 Assault Rifle that I use in some maps as well as close to lvl 2 sniper.

The sign up process is the worst I've ever seen for any game.
