I really don't understand what's so difficult about getting good scans from magazines. But, there's some cool stuff in there, and hey, there are cool characters.

Well, it's certainly clear that Sucker Punch isn't abandoning its focus on characters and plot, so that's comforting. I'm totally gassed about Prototype too though, but for other reasons. That one is all about the crazy methods of destruction and mayhem.

"A super-hero needs iconic villains, and infamous will definitely have foes worthy of its protagonist. Each of the three islands is under the control of different organizations, and it's probably safe to assume that the leaders of each group have special skills that will allow them to stand against Dylan."

Wicked awesome.

I'm getting a lot of Crackdown vibes from this game, only it looks to be fixing a lot of the problems that the former game had. Namely, that it was fairly shallow aside from the core gameplay. Definitely looking forward to hearing more about this one.

no idea what that means, but they do look pretty bad.

Hopefully there is some gameplay footage at E3.

The characters look like they have, well, character. Whether they are likable characters or not, I guess that's a matter of preference. Sucker Punch knows a thing or two about putting supporting actors with substance in their games, so the reasonable among us have faith.

The problem with Prototype atm for me is that the hero looks way too powerful and everything is too easy where it seems like nothing takes skill or is satisfying. The running on vertical walls kills some of the platforming, I think.

inFamous looks very interesting and the look is great too, I so want another super-hero sandbox game. Have they recently released any footage? Cause I want to see how it 'moves' and flows.

Also, these games are technically very difficult cause of all the shit that's going on so multiplatform does tend to suffer because of that. Crackdown was smooth as butter. I hope inFamous is a little more 'directed' and varied/interesting in the single player story though.

Well, I'm certain that the platforming aspect of the game will rock. Sucker Punch is real good with movement; Sly may not have been an incredibly complex game, but the character motion was incredibly smooth and, damn it, charming. And judging by the character designs here (the Reapers, for example), Sucker Punch hasn't gone all hell's blood serious on that either.

I have to say too, this article is refreshingly grounded. No yapping about the power of next-gen or really all that many incredibly bold and cocky claims. The Alpha Protocol article was sort of the same, informative without too much hyperbole from the developer or the article author.

I haven't read anything about actually designing the appearance of the character or the power set, although I thought the power aspect would be a bit more open. The game supposedly lets you go about being a hero in different ways though, opting for the boy scout path, or a bigger picture solution that brings more casualties will affect your reputation ("karma"). The article seems to suggest that electricity is your primary superhuman power.

Prototype has the whole shape-shifting, biomass combination powers going for it, maybe that's the one you're thinking of?

I really don't understand what's so difficult about getting good scans from magazines.

Most magazines are printed at low resolution to keep printing costs down. Typically something like 120 dpi or 133 dpi. Because the resolution is both low and in most cases users don't put the paper on the scanner bed at a perfect orientation, most scanners will produce a moire effect as they scan diagonals at too high a resolution. This is difficult to get rid of.

Interesting. I'll try and do a better job when I get the magazine.

Prototype is more like Hulk.

Infamous looks more like X Men.

The article's many references to the game's comic book roots makes me happy, as does the revelation that they are sticking with the comic book panel format of the previous Sly games for cutscenes.

And maybe sticking to one core superhuman ability is a good idea, keeps it somewhat more, er, grounded.

I have the magazine in front of me, and the game looks really fucking awesome.

But what are Dylan's powers? Just electricity?

And the title screen sounds WOWSOME.

Btw, duck, did you see that tidbit about SK?

I'll start a thread about it.

Oh, I don't actually have the magazine, I just found these scans online and figured I'd share.

It definitely sounds like the powers are focused squarely on electricity, but then I guess electricity is quite versatile. Seems like they have their priorities straight though.

What exactly?

You have your:

-Asian hacker guy
-Strong willed chick
-Fat buddie character
-Generic gang with generic name that looks like it's sponsored and funded by hot topic
-Generic setting(It's New York with more neon)
-Generic looking main hero with the safe  "I'm in the marines!" haircut.

Why can't the hero be a woman? Or Black? Why can't it be set in a futuristic city? Or a city in the sky?

Sucker Punch aren't dumb guys. The sly games were full of ideas and creativity, they have a game that has limitless possibility's and at this point everything looks great and solid, but still very safe.

"Generic" city setting, meaning it's, uh, a city setting? You want them to put it in the sky for what reason exactly? Just to be different? Yeah, that doesn't sound like distinguished mentally-challenged reasoning at all. And how many games have these types of characters again? I've certainly not come across a ton of them where the main character's best friend is a dedicated conspiracy nut, has an ex-girlfriend whose sister was killed in the explosion that is now being pinned on you with the help of a video shown by the underground pirate broadcaster (or, the "hacker").

Generic. Pffft.

Once again were in another New York only this time we can hurl lighting bolts! How fucking amazing. Maybe having it based in a city in the sky could add a new game dynamic instead of just driving or jumping to the next unlocked area.

Yeah, like watching out for the edge because OMG... you might fall down from this great city in the sky. It's a god damned city. It's not supposed to be a city in the sky, so asking for it to be a city in the sky for no good reason beyond "because" and, at a pinch, "it could add some new game dynamic" is ridiculous.

Fat best friend and the ex who isn't too sure about helping you but does anyway are NOTHING new. Making the fat guy a conspiracy nut and giving the ex a dead sister are basic changes. The designs don't help much either. They look too basic and uninspired. Maybe it's just me, but I'm not to keen on a fat wacko that's dressed like an Elvis impersonator.

So you don't have any examples then? Blah blah generic blah. And the quirks that define the characters and add a shitload of motivation, those are "basic changes" that should be dismissed? You're topping even yourself with this one.

And come on, "underground pirate broadcaster"? It's a fancy way of saying hacker. The only thing that could make him look worse if he was a fat white guy with "OTAKU" written on his shirt. I'm sure they're saving that guy for a sequel though.

Yeah, I suppose so. If you don't know what a hacker is or how the term could possibly be less than sufficient to describe a person who hijacks news signals in order to tear down illusions, then I suppose he's a "hacker," and certainly very generic.

Game looks awesome to me, except for that generic city. Man, I wish that city didn't just have city buildings and city roads and city streetlights and city cars and city sewer lines and city pedestrians and city power lines.

Finally got the magazine, so fuck those shitty scans. The game looks awesome, especially for a "sandbox" game. Although graphics quality really isn't the most important thing here, so that's just a nice bonus.

The magazine also has Dead Space, Gears 2 and Fable 2 previews, so I'm almost feeling good about this dumb generation at the moment.
