Whoever was in charge of putting that demo in anyone's hands should have been fired.

The demo got screwed by major technical problems that the Unreal Engine 3 update brought to the game. SK wanted to pull out, but MS said no, they had to show the game, or so they thought.

MS fucked up. And they have been trying to do things better ever since. And for all the "Art is crap", "Graphics are crap" etc whatever, people that have played the game recently have been pretty positive about how fun it is.

Previews, eh? Now there's stuff you can trust!

I wasn't following TH closely back then - but I get the impression 2006 E3 kicked off the really bad vibes on the internet and they've never really been able to recover.
He was getting hate back in his gamecube days.  I mean, he was a unique dev who made gamecube-exclusives so he of course had some insane fans even though he never really did a bad job on any of his games.  I'm sure his nintendo fans didn't help him in any way as far as being popular.

Bullshit.  The cameras, controls, animations, lighting etc. were all fucking terrible and that has nothing to do with the engine.  I'm calling bullshit on the ue3 story since they could have reverted the build to the one that got the glowing praise a month earlier.
so what do you think happened at E3, that the magazine preview was due to a money hat or that the developers did something wrong?

Well, i'm talking about impressions from people that don't need to act nice. 1upyours, where Garnnet and Shane pretty much crapped on certain games, they were very positive about Too Human, i can only look at that as a win scenario.

Well, people who played both builds said that the E3 build was notoriously worse than the one before. But hey....i don't know.

Previews that take place at developers studios tend to have the effect of overlooking huge flaws in the game.

Wasn't Matt specially invited to SK for the great post-ice bucket showing? "Now that you show it to me like this, I really get where you guys are going with this"

That's true, although I don't remember it being so vicious back then.  A lot of people might hate Denis, but I feel sorry for him more than anything.

Guys, it can't be that hard to make a hack-n-slash loot game with awesome gameplay, and while the game has been delayed for several years, I think we should give Silicon Knights the benefit of the doubt.

nobody hates denis. most sane folks think he's an overpromising and underdelivering windbag, though, based solely on sk's mediocre history

I don't follow what he says closely, but does Denis really do much over-promising?  There was the co-op thing of course, but he just doesn't strike me as reaching the fantastic over-promising levels set by Molyneux for example.

Then again I'm not a fan of, and don't really listen to, developer pre-release banter.  Of which Denis certainly does a ton.

He does talk a lot of shit. "Never done before, more content than anything, it's moving the medium of storytelling" etc

The guy should shut up and put up.

haven't been following Too Human, but for Twin Snakes he repeatedly said that the game would surprise players familiar with the original, and it would include a lot of extra shit.  then the game came out and it was played more like a $40 TC than a game developed by professionals.

all of SK's games started with lofty ideas and promises, but the team just doesn't have the talent or ability to deliver a game thats actually worthwhile.  wait for the reviews before you drop $60 on this.

Either shut up or put up.  I would rather he put up.  I want the 4 player co-op he promised along with the Devil May Cry combat system.

I remember that E3

What was so funny was there was a leaked cam video on youtube of people, testers playing Too Human a couple months before that E3 and it looked like utter shit but the talk at Gaf was about how it was an "Early" build and not the build at E3...

Funny how that turned out. Oh well.
