God damn, that's annoying.
« on: June 18, 2008, 01:45:17 PM »
-Standing in line, waiting to order my food.
-Standing behind a middle aged woman.
-Guy in front of both of us orders pasta
-Woman behind counter puts pasta in container, more than usual.
-Woman ahead of me yells out "THAT'S A LOT OF PASTA!" and starts cackling a a donkey with a ticklish taint.
-Woman turns around and looks at me, to see if I was laughing to, to assure herself that she's a comedic genius, and not just some fat cow that people want to abandon in the forest.
-I gave her the plain face.

Why? WHY WOULD YOU LOOK AROUND AT STRANGERS TO SEE IF THEY'RE LAUGHING TOO.

They do it with kids too.

Holy fuck.

When I managed a subway, i'd get the housemoms come in with their kids, and they would ask the fucking kid what they want on their shitty sandwich.

"DO YOU WANT PICKLES?"
"uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, no."
"DO YOU WANT LETTUCE?"
"uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, yes."

Repeat for each possible ingredient. 45 minutes later, I would have the sandwich complete.

Then, as if to use their child as some tool of performing art, they give the money to the kid to give to me. The stupid kid who doesn't have any hand-eye co-ordination because his mom did coke while she was preggo with him, drops the change fucking everywhere and knocks my tip jar over in the process.

The mom starts to laugh, like what the kid did was cute.

No, its fucking annoying. And if this were tribal times, I'd skin you both.

God dammit.

Retail / Fast Food are the best indicators at what state our society is in.

I went to the local dollar theater once and there was a group of about six or seven kids [probably around 8 or 9 years old] running wild with not a single parent in sight. They ran through the lobby yelling at the tops of their lungs, hitting each others and climbing on things. That scene alone made me never want to have a child ever.

Mojo I feel the exact same way every fucking time some red faced drunk comes in to get his half gallon of vodka with his hillbilly comedy sure to follow the stink on his breath.  Better yet is the fucking yuppie bitches of both sexes who come in to buy wine the cannot appreciate...then they come up to me and start in with their stupid fucking witticisms about how I am so lucky that I am not out in the heat/ have such a low stress job/ blah fucking blah fucking blah.

Just a pro tip for all the consumers on EB (of which I am definitely one).  The person behind the counter and, or, the person behind you in line DOESNT GIVE A FUCK ABOUT YOU.  I don't care if the person in the line I wait on gets hit by a fucking bus as soon as they leave...let alone how their whore of a wife lost their house in some money making business scheme.

I have had some dumb fuck customer service in my life....it sucks.

I also know what it feels like to be bombarded with so much idiocy that you just don't care anymore....at all.  Your local GS dude might know more about the shit that he is peddling  (keyword: might) but maybe he just doesn't give 2 shits about telling you because the last 30 people he waited on were so goddam stupid that he feels shell shocked....

I used to work at a Chapters, before my current job. It was a big store, 2 floors, 100,000+ titles.

People assumed I not only knew all 100,000+ books, but had read them all.

"HOW IS THE SECRET?"

Why the fuck would I read that shit?

HONESTLY

FUCK OFF AND DIAF.

My proudest moment was leaving pieces of paper with Harry Potter spoilers everywhere when I was bored.

my wife used to work at b&n, and her biggest grief was how folks honestly expected her to have a well-researched, credible opinion on EVERY BOOK IN THE STORE, and how they'd get really mad if she said "i don't know, i haven't read it but customers seem to like it." they'd actually get pissed and tell her off, like she wasn't doing her job. wtf.

I just had a customer the other day get angry with me when I laughed after he asked me what a bottle of 1972 Lafite Rothschild tasted like (we have one bottle for $799).

I wish I could quote Chuck Palahnuik verbatim here, but in the commentary for Fight Club he said he found it ironic that we treat people in the food business like shit when they hold the health of the masses in their hands. We pay them the least, they take the most shit, and yet they provide and care for what everybody in the world needs to live.

Sorry for the problems you're experiencing, dude, not all the customers are gonna be dicks.

You should have told him it tasted like buyers remorse.

People are pretty dumb when they go shopping.  I am so thankful that I don't have to work retail anymore.

I worked as a tech for verizon wireless for 2 years. I dealt with  so many idiots on a daily basis. Even science professors from Cornell would come in and ask why they had no signal behind 3 feet of cement or 4 stories underground. I even blew one prof's mind when I pointed to the cell tower on the adjacent mountain to prove that he didn't get signal from the satellites. ::)

Not to mention the fucktards who would break their shit in half, leave it out in the rain, or jump in the pool with the phone in their pocket and get pissed at me for not replacing the thing for free. ::)

What really burned me was seeing the sales people making 60-70k/yr while I was making $10/hr yet I had to keep all the idiot customers happy. ::)

I used to work at Subway and I didn't like that much, either. I understand wanting your children to learn to do things on their own, and it's okay if it's slow and there's no one behind you, but don't hold up the line with it.

In situations like that, I usually do laugh, but it is usually because it was so bad that I couldn't help but laugh.  I am really bad at controlling my laughter.  One time I saw this ditzy girl fall while going up the stairs and I laughed at her so hard that I felt bad later.

As for the situation with the kids, I usually think about pulling out the same moves Tommy used against Bulk and Skull.  Four spin kicks close to their face while yelling "KIYAH!" does the trick.

My friends used to call me "Coffeshop Jesus" because I could attract the most undesirable dregs of humanity to pick me out of a crowd of thousands to single me out and start talking to me. I don't get it. So you can imagine how that worked out for me during my stint in video game retail.

The dirty, smelly, nerdy and distinguished mentally-challenged people would hang around the damn store for hours talking, sometimes coming in specifically because I was there. In some cases I was downright rude to some of these folks, but it never made a lick of difference.
