What's there to play on a PSP slim?
« on: June 18, 2008, 10:58:12 PM »
I decided to keep my red GOW PSP after all.  The slim really is a nice piece of hardware.  It's exactly what the PSP should have been originally.

Too bad there still don't seem to be any PSP games worth playing.  The last PSP game I bought was Castlevania, which was pretty boring.

Has there been anything good since then?  I've already got GOW with the bundle.

What about the emulators?  Which ones run well on the slim?

I just picked up Secret Agent Clank and Space Invaders Extreme.  Both are fun so far.

I'd prefer games that I can't play on consoles or PC.  I guess turn based RPGS would be great since I don't play them much any more on consoles.

The only thing I don't like about the slim is the lack of an IR port. Not that it had any truly legitimate uses, but still. I don't like the idea that they take out features and still call it an improvement.

Games you can't play on consoles or PC? You mean PSP exclusives? If so, I think Patapon, Crush and Final Fantasy Tactics may be worth a shot or three.

If you already have a DS and a PSP you might as well keep both.

I finished Patapon two days ago and am just playing the boss battles. That's it. No other damn game holds my interest long enough, and I've tried dozens. I'm going to have to use the PSP as a dedicated media player, mess around with the Skype and try out the PS3-PSP game streaming. Oh, and homebrew for sure.

The PSP library ireally is smelly wkyd shite compared to the DS's.  Even Castlevania is worse on it.

How about Jean D'arc?

I've tried most of the true exclusives on that list and Lumines and GOW are the only 2 titles worth my time.

How's MLB08?  I never got the PS3 version.

Btw, please link me directly to those emulators.  There're too many apps to go through at that site.

Where can I find csp roms?  They don't seem to be on torrent sites.

If I can't find them, I guess there won't be shit to play on the PSP.

I assume you modded it, Smooth Groove? If so, check out the forums at http://www.maxconsole.net for some handy tutorials on how to use emulators on your PSP.

I am afraid I can't be much help regarding PSP game recommendations. I mostly play emulators (CPS2PSP, MVSPSP, PicoDrive) on the thing. :lol

I did, however, enjoy God of War, Final Fantasy Tactics, Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, Outrun 2006, and Crisis Core.

I think that with both the PSP and DS, if you don't have CFW or a flashcard with them, you are really missing out on a lot.  PSP becomes 100 times better with CFW.

Not yet but I could easily get it modded.  Most of my friends and cousins w/PSPs have hacked theirs already.  Seems like every PSP out there is hacked. lol

They all just seem to use it for pirated PSP games though so they can't really tell me to how to get the emulation stuff working.  Where can I find some old roms?  Do all those emulators run with few glitches or slowdown?

If I were limited to only one console or handheld, I would prolly choose the PSP. There are a handful of good games on the system, but the PS1 and SNES emulation are fantastic. That stance may change when my R4 finally gets here.

So is Jeanne D'arc another overrated Sony turd?  It's what I would like to play on a handheld but no one is vouching for it.

I'll vouch for it, and I would actually say that the game is quite underrated. It is very accessible and the presentation is great. I liked it more than FFT, but it does not have the depth (or should I say imbalance) that FFT has. The cel shaded graphics are great, but the story is kind of ridiculous. It will take you at least 25 hours to beat this game. This game, along with Brave Story, are the system's best games in my opinion.
