No, although I did buy that one, it was traded in pretty rapidly. Good game, great production values, and then

No, COD4. I guess I own some PSN games, but that's only because you can't trade those in. I really don't like this generation very much.

I've had my PS3 for just over a year now.  It is definitely my favorite next gen system, and I've owned a 360 since it's launch.

It just feels like such a complete machine to me.  It's quiet, which is very important to me considering how much I hate the noise the 360 generates when spinning a disc.  It's got every ounce of multimedia funtionality I could possibly want.  I can pop any memory card right into the front of the thing and they just work.  I can replace the hard drive any time I want, to almost any size I want.  Anyway, you get the gist of it.  These are all things I just can't do with my 360.

In terms of games I also think it's got the best exclusives.  Give me Uncharted, MGS4, Ratchet and Clank, GT Prologue, Hot Shots Golf, and Motorstorm over the 360's exclusives any day of the week.

While I fully acknowledge the 360's superiority in the multiplatform games (GPU), it's no longer by wide margins anymore, and instead is usually just a small touch here or there that is better on the 360.  Of course there are also some multiplatform games that are better on the PS3, and Burnout Paradise is one of my favorite games of this gen so far.

So yeah, I honestly love my PS3, and I can only see that growing stronger over time.  With the improvements like in game XMB that are just around the corner, and the improvements I expect to see before the end of the year via firmware updates, I may not even own a 360 at some point.

I turned on my PS3 last night to watch a movie. I was greeted with the update message. So, I started downloading it, but no background dl?

I'm forced to wait for two hours to download the sucker - which was the time it would have taken me to watch the movie.  :-\

Your internet must be really slow.  It downloaded/installed for me in less than 5 minutes.  I'm not even bragging about fast internet or anything like that, but 2 hours? what the fuck.

Plus, you should have just downloaded on your PC and taken it over to the PS3 via USB dongle or one of the other flash memory options.

To expand on the nonsense further.

40 gig has only PS1 BC
80 gig has BC, but not 100% total BC.  It is like 98%
60 gig has Full 100% BC, but I don't think you can buy them anymore

3mb/s download speed with 89ms ping to Yokohama, Japan. It won't break any speed records, but it's hardly slow.

I know that doing it via PC would have been faster, but that's not the point. The PS3 is supposed to be a "supercomputer" - hell, it can run Linux - but what if I'm a technically challenged user? Besides, my wifi with the PS3 is a hit-and-miss affair. Sometimes it's fast, other times it's like what I previously described - and oftentimes worse. Downloading via wifi on my laptop is much quicker - and consistently so. (My Wii feels much quicker as well, but that could be because Wii file sizes are much smaller than your typical PS3 download.)

Plus, the main gripe is it still doesn't handle background downloading of updates which is inexcusable being everything else can be downloaded in the background.

They should just update the PS1/2 emulation to do what PC emulators do.  Plus, they need to be kept that way so you can play them on the PSP also.

it's amazing how a machine which apparently never works is managing to beat out the PS3.

Describe "beat out" to us all.  Does beat out mean only having a lead in a single continent after 2.5 years, even though you had a 1 year head start on your competition?

overall global lead in hw units - i think that's probably how it's counted.
The "only leading in one continent" ignores the waifer thin PS3 lead in Europe (Sony land apparently) and the abysmal showing in Japan (2 million units as we close in on two years is a surprise to everyone).

It also makes light of the massive gap between the two machines in US.

I assume you aren't saying the X360 isn't beating out the PS3 ... right?

If so, care to explain. Either way, what i said is correct - regardless of timing/1 year/etc. The PS3 is in 3rd. The X360 is in second.

Yes, it is winning the overall hardware numbers worldwide right now, but EVERYONE knows which direction this thing is heading.  Microsoft has lost their lead in Europe, and now the U.S. sales are at least even each month, with the PS3 leading here and there.  I don't think there is any way to imagine the momentum not continuing in the direction it's heading now.  Catch my drift?

But there is not doubt the 360 is very strong in North America, and will continue to be.  I just don't think Microsoft is gonna be able to hold Sony off in the worldwide numbers when it's all said and done.  At the very least I expect Sony to have a worldwide lead of some kind in the next 24 months.  In 48 months it should be very clear the 360 ended up in third place this generation, and Microsoft will already be on to their next hardware.

I am still confused about how the Wii is first place.

And I don't think this whole Sony vs Microsoft battle for second place is gonna see a big shift anytime soon.  With the exception of GoW, PS3 already saw its big franchise titles and none of them sold like pancakes yet.  I think Gears 2 is the most important title for the 360.  If that doesn't move hardware for the 360, then maybe something is up, but I am sure it will.  If Halo 4 is ever made, that would also be another huge game.  I just don't think Sony has any games like that lined up that will sell huge.  Uncharted and Ratchet were both awesome, but they sold like shit.  Resistance 2 will most likely sell low despite that looking to turn out great.

The other weird aspect is how jrpg are now made for a small niche market in Japan and the much larger niche market in America for the 360.  I would have never expected that the 360 would be the jrpg system to beat.

When I see the # of buttons even a "kid's" game like Ratchet and Clank takes to play, the constant mandatory installs, the overwhelming assortment of options in the XMB, the percentage of 360 hardware failures, the 360 and PS3 still advertising heavily towards the 12-25 market, I am not confused at all...

Not to speak for dcharlie, but he probably means the worldwide sales, where the PS3 is still around 6 million units behind the 360, which means that Sony has only made up around 1.2 million in a year and a half.  At that rate, the PS3 will certainly beat the 360.  In 7.5 years.

But hey, for all I know, he could be talking about the software sales, the software library, the competence of the online experience... we could sit here all day counting the ways the 360 beats the PS3, or we could go have some beers and push over a crossing guard hut.  I know which of the two *I'm* going to do.

Yes.  It's a great game if you love arcade racers.  It's basically a directors cut of Ridge Racer 6, tho.  Either games are excellent for fans of arcade racers.  Groo is a big fan RR6 I've heard.

Yeah, that might be because you CHOSE not to buy any games on your PS3.  They were there to buy though.

Did you buy Burnout Paradise?  DMC4?  If you bought those on 360 you chose the inferior version.

It's annoying when people pull out that "I haven't bought a PS3 game in this long" crap.  It's usually a person who's addicted to achievements, so they've decided not to buy any multiplatform games on the PS3.  Instead of just admitting that, they try and act like it's really just because the PS3 "has no games".

Do you just have a good PC or do you buy all the games on the PS3? And I would say the only game you are missing out on is Ninja Gaiden 2.  Looking at my collection, there is nothing much else.

And Burnout Paradise is better on PS3 while DMC4 is better on 360.  Saying differently means you have a pair of balls in your mouth that are stopping you from thinking straight.

I think the age of poor PS3 ports is over with.  Playing both the BFBC demos on the 360 and PS3, the only difference is the slight tearing in the PS3 version at times.  It is much better than the PS2/Xbox/GCN days.

And don't forget about the controller differences.  Personally I really like the DS3, but I know most people would rather play with the 360 controller.

Superior DMC4 on X360. Come on, admit it. 2x AA > whatever the PS3 version had.

Isn't the "No games" meme just a personal preference thing more than a "OMG, the PS3 actually can't play games"?

By this way of thinking, I have to say that the wii and the 360 have no games.

But I wouldn't openly say that since it is douchebaggery and I wouldn't stoop to it.

Stop the douchebaggery.
