Coming from one of the greatest ex-Sony fanboys the Internet has ever seen, I believe my opinion has some weight. All in all I consider the PS3 an absolute disaster. The fact that it released a year later than the 360 and didn't trounce it on the visual front and didn't have basic features like in-game messaging out of the box is just unacceptable. Even when in-game XMB eventually gets added (two fucking years after the fact), I'm certain it won't be as robust as 360's, meaning you won't be able to cross-game invite, or join a friend's game in progress from your dashboard, or even have global voice chat. Looking at the games line-up, all I see is disappointment after disappointment. So many PS3 exclusives were hyped to no end only to turn out average or worse, and decent games get hyped to AAA GOTY OMG quality when they're really just, well, decent. Unless you absolutely have to play MGS4 or can't live without Blu-ray, there's really no reason to own a PS3 over a 360. Also, the fact that multi-platform ports are consistently inferior on a console that released a year later than its competition is downright pathetic. Deadmeat was right after all -- budget GPU. Look at last gen! Xbox released after the PS2 and multi-platform games were much improved over the PS2 versions. Not only that, but the Xbox exclusives completely obliterated PS2 exclusives. Nothing on PS2 could touch games like Ninja Gaiden, Rallisport Challenge 2, Riddick, and many more. Yet with the PS3, exclusives are neck and neck with 360, a lot of the times looking worse. This is absolutely unacceptable for a console that released a year later than its competition. The PS3, as a whole, is an utter disaster.
