The hardware looks good, but I hear the software and the restrictions and the Wi-Fi implementation are absolute shit. Anyone have any real impressions?

We'd kind of hoped the whole pandering to the disenfranchised iPod user might have resulted in more included (or at very least cheaper) accessories, but $20 for a USB cable is indeed low hanging fruit that apparently not even the artful Zuners could pass up.

Seems like MS are taking a cue from the 360 or something. Based off that, the higher capacity drive pricing for the 360 ain't gonna be so hot...but thats another thread.

The sharing of volitile files and the shared files dissappearing after 3 days is dumb. Appereantly even if the file you shared with someone is your own created music, theres no way to stop it from being deleted after 3 days. You also can only share with another Zune player.

anyone have a program that can strip the security shit out of songs bought off of iTunes? I was thinking about geting a Zune but I don't want to have to burn all my itunes to cd and re rip them.

I saw on Adult swim that Metal Apocalypse is going to be on XBL for download so I assume that means I would be able to copy that over to a Zune right? That could be cool, something like a video ipod but worked perfectly with the X360.

Quick points after messing with it

The store sucks ass it has to have its own application for the store and syncing. Which sucks ass cause you'd think WMP11 would be able to have the Zune store in it.

Its large and heavy, but with that comes a pretty nice battery. Which i'll test later. But its still large, but then again so was the first Ipod.

Video playback is less than perfect. It has a hard time with a lot of my files. I don't know if its the way i encoded my movies or something but they get very pixelated.

Now for some good news, it sounds better than the Ipod and its on par with the great sound quality of the Zen players.

Menus are solid and work well, so do the controls very straight forward and nice.

I don't know if I like the player yet but i'm gonna give it a little while.

Well i got it for more than one reason. A)to try it out B)to give it away to someone as a gift

I used a coupon and was able to get it for 220 bucks. Which was nice incentive to get it today. Plus I was there just getting DVD's and stuff. I wasnt gonna get a Zune till next month but oh well. Coupon changed that.

And yeah the end of the week is gonna be a bitch. A few grand is going out the window like in a snap. $:-\$

But i'm gonna sell the PS3's i think since nothing i want is out for it yet.

I'm gonna put it and a few DS's and PSP's in the christmas stockings of the kids at the hospital.

Also gonna change out the GC's with the new Wii's and a 360 for the older kids.

Its not a cancer wing. Its long term care for kids that need constant care. Most kids stay for average 4-8 years in the hospital. All kinds of different disorders and diseases. They are still kids at heart and they need people to care for them and make them happy. So they see hope in everyday life that there is something to live for. You'd be surprised at how depressed these kids can get.

I do what i can, providing my time for field trips and sponsoring 2 kids who dont have parents that can afford to take care of them. I also get the other kids toys, game systems, all types of things.

iPod killer, lol. Microsoft are so clueless. You'd think with all that money they'd be able to hire industrial designers and interface teams that aren't mentally distinguished mentally-challenged.
