Your favorite dog breed
« on: June 20, 2008, 04:51:09 PM »
Neapolitan Mastiff is my dream dog.  I'm absolutely infatuated with the "Neo".  I actually visit and post at a forum for this breed.  They're an ancient Italian breed (Mastino Napoletano) that's one fo the most unique in existence today.  They were on the verge of dying out until people in Naples decided to save the breed hundreds of years ago and carefully bred them for their survival.  They're a wonderful guard dog and extremely loyal, bu t at the same time, have a gentle and affectionate personality.  "The Gentle Giant" is a term that's used often.  The Neapolitan Mastiff is notable for their incredibly wrinkly skin and face.  The expression on their face makes them look sad and depressed but they're so lovable and affectionate.  They look like a giant Shar Pei.  Easily one of the most unique looking breeds in existence.  The only downside to the breed is their short lifespans, which is a problem with all giant breeds.  They live on average about 8 years, meaning 6 on the low end and 10 on the high end.  They have heart problems due to their huge size (175+ lbs for a male).  They also snore very loudly and drool a lot, but most owners find these things endearing and part of their charm.  The first thing I do when I eventually own my own home is get a Neo.  Some don't like their look but those people are simply tasteless and can't appreciate a masterpiece of creation like the Mastini.

Mastini are high maintenance.  They require strict diets and lots of love and affection.  They hate to be 'left out'.  For example, left outside when the family is eating dinner.  They want more than anything to be a part of your family.  As for the diet, the best type of diet for them (and all dogs) is a BARF diet, which is raw meat and bones.  This can get expensive.  Then there's also the added expense of veterinary care due to their massive size.

Husky.

AWWWWW so cute.  But they're not good around cats/small children/small dogs so we can't get one, we'll prob end up getting a black lab or german shepard though.  Shepards and Labs are awesome.

If you wanna hear how loud their snoring gets, watch this:

You'd think that it gets annoying or just unbearable but most owners of these dogs find it endearing.

No they are not.  My shih tzu snores loud as hell - it drives me crazy!  That's why he's not allowed to sleep in my room.   :-\

They're pretty cool dogs, don't get me wrong.  They've got a cool personality and are very affectionate, but they're not what you think of when you think of a dude's dog.

hmm well I like labs, they are cool, we had a golden retriever/lab mix a while back
I kinda want a chocolate Labrador or something eventually

but right now I'm going with rottweilers, they amuse me. Funniest dogs ever

We had a german rott, which looks more like one would call a rottweiler, when it comes to build, short and a big head, and we also have an American rottweiler which is much taller and has a less blockier head on him.

actually took a picture of him today coincidentally:

hes jumping around like an idiot :lol

i've got a daschund and they are awesome dogs.  they're generally laid back, but they love to search everywhere (i've heard that if you have two, they like to hide things from each other).  they're jealous, though, they don't like kids, and they get lots of back problems, but otherwise they're great!

my aunt has had a lot of pug dogs, and they'd rank second for me.  their goofy faces match their spastic personailities.  watching a hyper pug = pure joy

I've never owned one but they're a great dog, and tough little fuckers too.

I currently have an Australian Silky Terrier and have had them in the past.  Tough as hell much like jack russells.

We've got a French Bulldog named Gary.  Good little guy.  Never had a French Bulldog before but if they're all like Gary then that breed is alright with me.

But I'll tell you one breed of dog that fucking creeps me out - Irish Wolfhound.  Screw these dogs.  My girlfriend and I bought a horse last year (ugh) and we stable it at this ranch out of town that has some wolfhounds as guard dogs.  These fucking things are big enough to put a sadle on and they all look shitballs insane ready to bite your head off at a moments notice.  Why anyone would want to own one as a pet is beyond me but evidently there are people that are off their meds and went dog shopping....

Irish wolfhounds are really nice generally speaking.  My step-mom does interior decorating/remodeling junk and I helped her out one week last year before I escaped to the beach and the people she was working for had two of them, they were super sweet dogs.  They ARE huge as fuck, tho.  That means they only live to be about 8, 10 max due to heart conditions.

Anyways. I had a Shit Zhu loved him to death. Died of Old age 8 years ago or so. Currently have 2 Golden Retrievers. But damnit one of them pisses me off. He somehow found out how to open doors in my house. SMH My Golden Retriever.  (He gets on two legs and actually uses his mouth to open the doors by the handle)

Hitler you have horses as well?  expensive fuckers.

One horse and it wasn't my idea either.  I don't even like 'em but we went horseback riding in Montana a few years back and Angie kinda got it stuck in her head about owning one so we finally broke down and got one last year.  The thing is a fucker too.  Bites me everytime I go over to visit it so Angie is more or less in charge of horse maintenence.  As far as I'm concerned it's just a $450 a month stable fee for an animal I don't have to see.

Gas gets anymore expenisive though and I'm riding that damn thing to work.  Fuck everyone on I-5.  Bitey the horse is comin'.

btw, feeding them a raw food diet with raw meat and other raw food like vegetables is the best deterrent for flatulence.  diet is called BARF diet, google this if interested.

:o Bichon's are rockin'.

My favourite breed is Australian Silky Terriers.  My family has had a few over the years.  This is the only pic I have online of my current one.

Other breeds I really like are Rottweilers, Westies and Jack Russells.

Dogs are awesome all 'round, regardless of breed.

My family has a lot of horses.  Call 'em gay all you want, Bildi, but the only way to make panties drop faster than being able to ride a horse properly would be to tie bricks to them.

Well, my dog has never got me laid, so you win this round. :hump

This is my one and only concern with getting a dog.  I just know I'll be completely devastated when my Mastini passes.  They have such short lives...anywhere from 5-8 years, usually on the lower end of that scale (5-6 years).  They also become incredibly attached to you...following you around everywhere, really becoming a part of you.  They're unlike any other breed out there.  I would just be annihilated for months on end.  You wouldn't think this but I got a really big heart, man.
