Ebert loved it and I love Ebert and rarely disagree with him. I really get the impression I'll hate it from the trailer though.

Naw. Get Smart is the kind of filler summer film you watch in between huge blockbusters, which in this case is Iron Man, Indiana Jones, and The Dark Knight. It gives you some laughs but you will forget all about its existence by the following year.

True, but Get Smart was better than Indy, which was an out-and-out turd, and I enjoyed it more than Iron Man too, which was just so overwhelmingly bland (and Im convinced that if you were to remove Downey from the equation, NO ONE is jacking off to it). Get Smart is as predictable and formulaic as these types of movies come, but it still clicked with me (casting, chemistry and some well-timed jokes/gags go a long way), and I got more baseline enjoyment from it than either on of the "big" blockbusters released so far this summer.

Wrika: Wanted is out next week.

Alan Arkin and Terence Stamp both have small roles, but totally steal several scenes apiece. Each had one scene in particular that made me LOLZ big time.

They don't share any scenes as far as I can recall, but both are great in this. Khali is basically the "Jaws" of the movie (they even rip-off the Jaws-and-Bond-fight-in-midair-over-a-parachute scene from Moonraker, lolz).

I like The Rock. Not in the same way that I appreciate an actor like Daniel Day-Lewis or DiCaprio (fucks yous, he was awesome in Blood Diamond), but he definitely has charisma, and a knack for the action movie role. Not sure about this movie though.

the movie was hit-and-miss. the characters were great but the movie was a bit slight.

I think my biggest issue was that it was too much action and not enough comedy. it had several "real" summer blockbuster action sequences, and when those were going on, the comedy just stopped...

I will agree with that criticism - at times it veers more into flat out action territory than comedy territory. Still, its pulled off well enough that I enjoyed it (especially the scene with the chief, Max, the van and the plane).

Mmm... Anne Hathaway. I think I'm going to see this on Wednesday, which is mah birfday interestingly enough. Also, any Hathaway fans that haven't seen it yet need to find the good scenes from Havok online... I wouldn't actually rent the movie as it sucks but it does feature her bewbs which are mmm mmm good.

+1? Really? I was nominating that for Most Gratuitous Cameo of the year. I didn't laugh at all and just wondered, "Why the fuck is Bill Murray in this movie?" I mean, if it was Mel Brooks or Don Adams (which I think is impossible seeing as he's dead), I would at least get some satisfaction out of knowing it was referencing the original movie. Bill Murray's role just seemed forced and it wasn't funny.

Still, I liked the movie. Saw it for five bucks. It was worth it.
