Secret Agent Clank > Ratchet n Clank Size Matters
« on: June 21, 2008, 09:09:24 PM »

I bought this with trade in credit because Space Invaders Extreme was out of stock. Kinda like the crappy off-brand shoes you get cause you need shoes and the cool shoes are gone.

Anyway, huge shock, this game is awesome. Its the first R&C game that isnt more of the same. The mini-games are also pretty brilliant. While most will compare this to Daxter it isn't the same type of game at all. SAC won't challenge you to deal with fiendishly designed levels, but instead will base a mini-game around getting through them. For example a room crowded with trip-lasers is dealt with via a frequency/hero mini game. Stealth is rewarded but the game also has a lot of combat. Lots of weapons, and you still get to play Ratchet as he keeps the buttfuckers away from him in prison. The Quazar missions are a lot of fun; the first one is great because as his false narrative of the completely made up event unfolds, the level changes to accomodate his lies. The 'Incredible Machine' type mini-games for the three little robots are awesome too.

Games gorgeous, the sound is passable, even if the VA work is above average. Camera kind of sucks for the faster combat but the boomerang tie is homing and most of the weapons have smart targeting you can depend on even if the camera is facing your character head on.

Anyway, well worth the money.

What do you mean by "via a frequency/hero mini game."? Like, as in frequency the greatest music game ever kind of mini game? Cause if so i'll buy ten copies of this game to proove to HMX that we want a fucking sequel you fucking sell out fegs.

I played and really enjoyed the demo.  I bought the full game but have yet to play it.  I was too busy today going to Atlantic City.  Atlantic City is like the worst place ever.

I wouldnt take that too literaly. Those are the only games I could think of with that particular mechanic. There's only one area so far where that kind of mini-game occurs tho.

Size Matters was bad because it was just more of the same, unless of course you hate R&C in general. Then you can just level 'general complaints' unfairly against this game.

yeah but the camera sucks on the ps2 ones too. Ive always hated the controls + aiming in R&C games. I can level this complaint about SAC too, but again, thats just a R&C 'thing' :/

The controls in the demo, and even the controls in Size Matters, I thought were pretty great for the PSP.

Ratchet and Clank Future definitely has the best camera/aiming system out of all the games.

Yeah I just hate babysitting cameras, I usually just learn to fight with them by guessing where I need to swing. Same goes for ninja gaiden II lulz

in R&C world, no, you're right. In the world of platformers in general, though, you are wrong.

You can use FPS-style dual analog control in 2 and beyond, 1 is the only one that seems crusty to me.
