It looks like theyre going with the art style from the last Slayers movie. Which is fine by me, it looks great and is still pretty unique looking compared to all the other stuff out there. Im a little put off by whatever that furry thing is, but it looks pissed so its probably the usual slayers play on expectations. Its being handled by almost all the same people as the last series.

We'll probably see raws on the net next day, but im not sure which fansub groups are lining up to sub it. Slayers is kind of an establishment, so I hope it gets some attention.

Timeline goes:

OVAs\4 of the 5 movies ---> The Slayers ----> slayers Next ----> Slayers Try ---> Slayers Return (movie) ----> Slayers Revolution

You never really need to have seen an earlier series to enjoy the next. They always recap with the excuse that Gourry is dumb and forgot.

Also Naga is Amelia's sister. There's lots of subtle references, like Amelia saying she hates when Lina does the Naga laugh, or when she talks about her sister that ran off and embarassed the kingdom and there's other naga references like the squid spell Lina does in Next and says not to ask who taught her it, or the movie reference in Next where Amelia suggests there's might be a hot springs that will grow lina's breasts.

3 of the 5 movies are good, 2 of the 5 are kinda throw away. Most of the OVAs are pretty awesome. You can get the movie box from ADV for like 35 bucks, and the OVAs are on the 'Book of Spells' release. You'll find a Book of Spells volume 2 these days, but its the same as the first Book of Spells release...really. ADV just sucks sometimes.

The animation in that trailer looks pretty nice. Very colorful and very much in tune with the artwork of the original series. Glad to see it didn't go all "Tenchi in Tokyo" with the style.

yeah probably, they usual recap whats important at the beginning. Or you can just wiki previous seasons. It wouldnt hurt to nab the first 3 seasons if you end up liking this one, theyre like 30 dollars each from funimation

Oh shit, the trailer was posted all this time and I didn't know.

Animation for the actual series looks great. Was worried it'd be too different. Also, seems this doesn't take place too long after Try. Damn shame, Lina's way overdue to be legal.

Now back to watching the original series, which might be a little hard after seeing the much better animation and color of the new series

I watched the SS_Eclipse release of the first ep. They take way fewer liberties with the translation than Tadashi, which results in a more accurate 'hammer of justice' instead of 'hammer of judgement'. Unfortunately the dialogue feels more 'dry japanese' in parts. There are fewer minor edit mistakes than Tadashi, but I had more fun watching the Tadashi version.

We'll see next episode.

I watched a subbed version, dunno which one, kind of annoyed about how all subs are like Lina-san, Zelgadis-san now. I can hear it fine, I don't need it to be in the text too.

Anyway, since it's only the first episode I can't really comment too much, the animation still looks good, Gourry's voice sounds weird to me. I know that a lot of the episode is just character re-introductions and setup, I mean hell they need all of the young kids to understand who these characters are since Slayers is such an old series now. The episode didn't really do much for me, turtle tank was definitely the best part of it. The gags were consistent with the old shows.

The show definitely has a lot of potential, and hopefully it can bring a rebirth in the franchise.

I think its Eclipse that has the -sans, i'd have to go back and check. Amelia has been known to add the suffix, but anyone else not so much.
