I've been doing random quests in the first town, and I like how you get the option to either Dispatch someone, or just go do the quest yourself (usually resulting in a battle).

I find the game slower than FFTA too... not framerate wise, just going through the motions.

Also, finding "loot" to make new equipment is totally Etrian and really cool.

I fucking hate the camera in this game. I thought the original FFT had a bad camera, but this one clearly takes the cake. I can't adjust it at all, other than doing a useless zoom in. What the fuck Square?

Isn't Toys R Us having a buy 2 get 1 DS game free special this week? Get both and then get another game for free... Considering I wasn't nuts about FFTA I would go for EO2 over FFTA2 personally.

I wish the game explained this better, but the skill system is great. You use loot to make new weapons. New weapons give certain classes new skills. Using those skills opens new classes. It really encourages job swapping, but opens the door to building a super version of each class. So fun. The quests are great, too.

I don't even think that you need to use the skills in order for them to get to master level, I think that they only need to be equipped. I really like the game, but I do have a few other complaints that are pretty big. The story and dialogue so far have been awful, even by FF standards. There are no emo characters that I've encountered yet, but all of the characters so far are very juvenile. This is especially glaring after I just played FFT on the PSP not even a year ago. Also, there is no fucking camera control. Square should have looked at Jeanne Darc and implemented something like that, or anything at all would have been better. Completely archaic in that regard.

The story is atrocious, but I'd rather a twee, "Regular person in a fantasy world" adventure than an FF7 "I AM SO SERIOUS AND SAD" adventure. I think skills bump a little without use, but they really soar with use. Case: Roundhouse took like 5 battles to Max without use, took 1 with use.

Most of the time you get a restriction like "No counterattacks" or "Cannot use ranged weapons". How does this add anything to the game, other than being a huge pain in the ass? It really sucks when your entire party has counterattack abilities equipped and you get a law forbidding it. You then have to meticulously go through each member's menu screen and unassign this ability. I have a feeling that I am going to be sending my party out alot instead of doing sidequests myself, just so I don't have to do through that bullshit.

I hate the
"No Counterattack" one because it's not something you can cotnrol, but the others are usually in for a good reason. There was one where I wasn't allowed to use Range Attacks, but I brought my Archer along just to grind focus. Lo and behold, every enemy on the map had charm. It's about having a divirsified party that you can adapt to changing laws.

This is easily my favorite DS game of the year

In FFTA, you eventually got the ability to create laws and remove them

What jobs are currently in your party and what are your favorite jobs so far? My party is about level 9, and I have to say that my favorite job so far is either archer or moogle knight. The archer job is much improved over the original FFT because you no longer have to keep line of sight in order to attack, plus if your archer attacks every turn he is almost guaranteed to get the MVP. The moogle knight just does tons of damage, although he has whiffed a few times due to lower accuracy.

Well, the wife was being nice and bought it as a gift for me (the Target employee talked her into it  ). Anyway, I'm giving it a shot. Besides the fact that I fricking died in the very first battle, I think I may be able to get into this one more than the first game. The thing I can't wrap my brain around thought is why the story is so kiddie when the game is obviously so very hardcore/deep/mature/etc. 

Between this and TWEWY, I've got some serious RPGing ahead of me this summer.

Also, random recruits just pop up on the map. Some Black Mage approached me, but my already better BM was like "fuck off" so I gave him HAND and moved on my merry way
