When people have seizures
« on: June 24, 2008, 09:33:06 PM »
So earlier I had a group of guests over.

One of the guests who I do not know very well had a random seizure when he was drinking a glass of water.

At first he reported feeling a bit seasick and then he kind of passed out a bit before locking into a tight seizure where it was hard to tell if he was breathing or not.

It was pretty scary and im sure he felt pretty embarrassed having a seizure in the lounge of someone he barely knows. I didn't mind but it freaked me out (I never see this kind of stuff happen - I dont know any sick people) and now hours after the event I am still haunted by it.

I asked him questions about the event and what he described sounded like what happened the time I got shocked real bad. his eyes were open but he couldn't see, he could hear everything going on and he could hear/feel a loud buzzing in his skull.

Have you seen this before? What causes it? What should I do.

I wanted to call 911 RIGHT AWAY - but the related guests didnt want to. He said he heard me asking them to do it when he was out and was glad they they didnt.

I really thought the lads number was up.

How can you tell a seizure and freaking out a part? I would've been wigged out too.

I've had 2 seizures before.

The first time was when I was at the doctor's office having a routine check-up. I was lying down on the doctor table and a nurse was poking in my ear with a Q-Tip. She must've poked too hard, because when I sat up I had a seizure. After sitting up, everything was slowly going black and then I must've passed out. Before I fully came to my senses, all I saw was blackness and I could hear myself grunting and feel my body shaking. When I fully came to my senses I was lying on the table again and had drool running down my mouth.

The second time I had a seizure happened about a year after the first. Once again I was at the doctor's office, but this time the seizure happened after I was getting tetanis and other shots. The same deal happened. Blacked out and woke up drooling. I wasn't so worried about it that time since it had happened before, but seizures still suck. The doc checked my blood because he believed I may have been anemic but it turned out negative.

Whatever. I haven't been to the doctor since. Bad things happen to me when I go there.

These symptoms look familiar.  I think the nurse is drugging you and having her way with you.

A woman that my mom works with has seizures sometimes. One of two things happens, she either locks up and keeps repeating a simple task over and over or she'll suddenly start doing something completely random, such as attempting to go somewhere or talking about something that doesn't make any sense. She's usually perfectly okay, with no memory of it having happened, in fifteen minutes or so.

I haven't seen it happen myself, but it's a very strange phenomenon.

Once in 7th or 8th grade me and my friends saw a big crowd outside on the sidewalk after school. Turned out some little kid was having a seizure. He was okay though, thank goodness.

I have never seen anyone having a seizure before.

I did once see a kid pass out in front of the entire class while presenting a project.  Lucky bastard got to lay down in the nurses office and eat crackers for the rest of the day.

I had a seizure once. First day of the fifth grade while my mom was braiding my hair. I don't remember it and they never found out what caused it. I never had another, though.

Whenever someone has a seizure you should call an ambulance for them.

Neither of them sound like seizures.

A seizure is when you lose the ability to control yourself, but you're still apparently conscious to other people. My uncle has epilepsy and I've seen him have a seizure before. It seems the brain cannot cope with the overload of senses and the person just freezes, shakes uncontrollably, or keels over.

What FatalT described sounds like a regular black out, often caused by a sudden drop in blood pressure in the head, because of sharp movement under certain conditions, or other things. I've blacked out on the station platform before. I was standing up, and I felt myself falling backwards, falling, falling, but couldn't do anything and when I woke up I was lying on my back with a bunch of Japanese folks crouching over me saying "are you ok?". My wife was with me at the time and called an ambulance. I felt lightly dizzy a few times in the hours after that, but that's probably because I whacked my head anyway.

Good times.

They bukkaked you before they called the ambulance.  :-*

Panic Attacks and Seizures are VERY different to watch. While Panic Attacks are very real, Seizures are much more serious 'in the moment'.
