After he fired nine liberal attorneys last  year without a good reason., there was a series of Justice department investigations launched (this is the first one) and it found that he would heavily prefer to hire "conservative" applicants.  Ever since 9/11, the hiring process in the JD was changed so that instead of career officials of various sections of the JD reviewing the applicants, politicians like Gonzales got to say who would be accepted.  Apparently buzzwords like "environmental and social justice were often grounds for rejecting clients" according to the article.  The full report is at the link.

Honestly, they conservatives aren't going to even clean the shit off the fan.  Nothing will happen to anybody.  Gonzales will claim that he was following orders from higher up and obviously nothing will happen to Bush or Cheney.  I would personally think that it's fair to ban Texans from being in the Executive branch for the next 20 years but honestly, this would probably only be cared about as an election issue.  If anything.

I'm wondering how this would work out as an election issue.  Obviously it could help Obama a lot.

My expectations have been lowered enough that I basically shrug this off, though I should probably be outraged.

I bet it isn't just the DOJ.  The civil service ranks are probably seeded with true believers in the Liberty University mold.  That could be a major pain for a president Obama.

Yeah. In time we'll see where certain forms of corruption and cronyism are totally brushed aside because Bush has lowered the bar so much.
