Malazan looks cool but I really don't want to start another huge series. Black Company is awesome although I don't really obsess over it. It's a fun read. I've been re-reading ASOIAF and it only makes the wait even worse. Very few fantasy books keep me on the edge of my seat during the second/third readings. sigh

It's more consistently awesome.  ASOIAF has higher highs but some really boring lows imo.  Also, Erickson is a MACHINE when it comes to writing.  Book 8 is done and will be out this year, Book 9 in 2009 and Book 10 in 2010.

Basically, all you're doing is prolonging the inevitable.  Once you get about 2/3 of the way through the first book you'll be saying OMFG BRIDGEBURNERS SO AWESOME OMFG QUICK BEN BEST CHARACTER OF THE EVER.  And the first book isn't even anywhere NEAR as good as the second and third ones.

I've already accepted that the he'll die before the series ends and haven't been expecting a book this year so I'll be fine.

I'll start looking into the Malazan books as soon as the Erikson cheerleaders leave ASOIAF threads alone.  I read the Prince of Nothing series when Prole mentioned it but you fuckers are annoying.
