Anyone catching Wall-E this weekend?

It's getting amazing reviews.  I'll probably check it out.  Pixar has only failed me once with that bug movie that I don't even remember.

Yeah, gonna see about going Friday or Saturday night... Not a Pixar fan but love the character design and the whole concept of the movie, been hyped for this ever since I saw the first trailer.

Isn't there a long segment in which there is no dialogue?

So, SO excited to see this tomorrow. Pixar rarely lets me down (Cars  :-\, which is still a great movie, just not as great as Toy Story or Incredibles), and the reviews are so glowing I know I will walk out satisfied.

Most of the first half, yeah.

I'll either be going to the midnight showing tonight or Friday evening, to lessen the chances of being in a room full of kids for two hours.

My wife has tomorrow off, and I've got the entire summer off, so we're going to catch an afternoon matinee tomorrow.

Aside from the awful Cars, Pixar movies = perfection.

I'm planning to go see this and Wanted.  This is gonna be the first time I went to see a movie alone in the theaters, but I heard that going in the daytime is the best way to do it.  I hate the theater experience, and despite enjoying hanging out with friends outside of theaters, I am always on the verge of telling them to shut up and stop talking to me when I'm watching the movie.

Go to matinee showings, they're cheaper, and if you really need something to eat, go to the grocery store before hitting the theater and sneak it in. That's what my wife and I do.

This won't work for WALL-E though.  Parents bring their shit sucking scummy children to the matinees.  People shouldn't be allowed into movie theatres until they are about 25 or so.

They need to bring back the class to movie theaters.  Basically, pay like 2 or more dollars extra but the theater is smaller, there are strict quiet rules, each seat is spaced out and bigger, and the floors are cleaned constantly so they don't become sticky.  They can have the regular peasant theater, but I want my business class theater too.

Just saw it. Wow, incredible. It was packed with kids, predictably, and most of them seemed bored and confused (there was one point where a bunch of kids just said "What just happened?"), even though I thought the movie was never boring and always pretty straightfoward.

Definitely want to see it again on the big screen, I was very impressed.

On a scale of Ayn Rand inspired pixar movies is it a 10 like the incredibles or more of a 5 like Bug's Life?

Awesome.  Pixar is really on roll after crappy Cars--Ratatouille, which was superb, and this.  I was pleasantly surprised and I was very hyped before release, but it even exceeded my expectations.  All sci-fi fans have gotta watch this.

The robots show more individuality than the humans.  It also weaves very anti-corporate themes, more corporate restraint than anything else.

It's silly how good this movie is.

I was a bit suspicious of how ambitious and high concept it sounded when the Pixar guys initially described it.  "Let's make a silent movie!" tends to be code for "I want to do something important" which in turn usually means "This will suck."

However, this did not suck.

This movie was pretty fucking awesome.  I pretty much echo Mandark's thoughts, but from a more crass, unwashed masses point of view.

I was worried it'd get pretty preachy, but they really kept it in check.  This also has to be the first futuristic movie where there isn't some kind of tension or hatred between robots and humans.

Best film of the year to date, and easily the best Pixar movie.

And Cohen, the way the political/social overtones are done is SO well that it does not suck. Brandonh83 walked out and was convinced it was the first G movie that wasn't for kids.

Best CG
Best story
Best animation
Best themes

This motion picture deserves Academy Awards, and not just for animation. It totally blew me off of my ass.

Annoying "consumerism" message aside, I found the whole interaction between EVE and Wall*E to be so freaking cute. I'll admit it, there's a couple of moments where I got misty eyed.

Also, the Pixar Short before the movie was fucking hilarious. Its essentially a CG version of a 1960s cartoon. I'm not sure if the cartoon itself was pulled from a specific cartoon in that era but it was just amazing.

This movie just confirms the fact that Pixar are fantastic animators. The facial expression and body movement of the characters in both the Pixar short and Wall*E just had me in awe. Little gestures Wall*E had really made the robot endearing.

The "silent" stuff on Earth was some of the best stuff Pixar has ever done.

The "consumerism is bad" stuff on the spaceship was preachy and obnoxious to the point of self-parody.

Overall, it's a B+. Too bad, because they really had something unbelievably magical for the first few reels. :/
