Volition talks about Saints Row 2's story
« on: June 26, 2008, 08:40:19 PM »
IGN has an interview up with lead designer, James Tsai about the story in Saints Row 2. I wont post the entire thing, but I will post the basic summary of Saints Row 2.

Warning Spoilers:

Quote
A lot has changed in Stilwater since the original Saints Row, and the Saints gang has seen the city slip from its grasp over the course of a few years. Johnny Gat, one of the top Saints lieutenants, has been in prison awaiting trial for murder. Troy Bradshaw, the undercover officer who had penetrated the innermost circle of the gang, has gotten out of detective work and is the presiding chief of police. Julius has tried to wash his hands of gang activity altogether, while the player character has been recovering in a coma, battling the after effects of being caught in a huge boat explosion. Suffice to say, the Saints' leadership has been fractured and scattered.

If you're interested, you can read the rest here:

http://xbox360.ign.com/articles/884/884621p1.html

Along with the interview IGN also has some new screens and a video up.

Warning Spoiler:

Personally, this looks alot better then Grand Theft Auto 4. Some of the stuff shown in the video looks absolutely insane. I'm also glad my guy can talk this time around, I can still make my own guy right?

Yup, you can upload your old guy or just make a new one (game uses a car accident as an excuse for plastic surgery or some shit) iirc

Ugh. Hopefully it isn't as horrible as the first games story, although I would be lieing if I said I wasn't going to play this.

Also, not being able to play the game anymore after the last mission in the first game is quite possibly one of the worst design choices in the history of gaming.

Can't you go crazy with the character creation in SR2?  I thought you could make your own pimps, hookers, and other crazies to play as.

Also, that interview is false.  Here is the real version:

Not necessary, especially since SR1 is a buggy mess bordering on unplayable. Add horrific voice-overs (that you can skip, thankfully) as well as a pretty bland soundtrack (not as bad as GTA4 tho) and SR1 becomes wholly skippable.

Don't bother.  Wait for SR2 since it is close anyway.

I mean, SR1 is great, but you might get over saturated with it all by the time SR2 comes out.

Are you kidding me? Having more than two police squad cars on the screen makes the framerate drop under 10fps. The pop-in is fucking insane, and I can't drive for longer than 3 minutes straight without falling into the great abyss.

If you really want to try the first one, go for it, but SR2 isn't that far away. If you played the demo, you've had your fill of SR1, just wait until the sequel.

Get out of here clown, I was doin the drug seller missions just a few days ago. Frame rate was acceptable, pop in is no worse than gta4, and id idn't fall into an abyss once.

The fucking hilarious thing about you is that you're fighting yourself. I never mentioned that GTA4 is superior in any way compared to SR1. I'm simply saying SR1 is pretty mediocre, and GTA4 is easily worse than that.

SR2 is a paltry four months away, which is just enough time to burn yourself out on sandbox games if you bought SR1 and played it to death. The story isn't relevant in the second game and neither are the characters, really, so that leaves gameplay the only reason to buy SR1, which is, like I've stated, terribly fucked up and broken considering all the glitches.

Regardless of your so obviously biased anecdotal evidence of SR1's quality, I'll let this video speak for me:

Saint's Row is a great game, it's just filled with glitches that break the game, imo. You'll just have to evaluate yourself and your tolerance for performance.

I'M NOT TROLLING.

How the fuck stupid do you have to be to think I'm trolling? Apparently as stupid as Demi.

I like Saint's Row. Do I have to pull my dick out and rub it on the disc until I nut to gain approval from you dumb bastards? It was a fun game, but not without a laundry list of faults, albeit a shorter one than GTA4. Crackdown is superior to both, if anybody was wondering what margin I was comparing the two games to.

Wow a video edited to show only glitches is filled with glitches!

That sitting in the car thing happened to me maybe 4 times in 35 hours of play. I don't think I ever fell into in abyss, maybe it happened once or twice and I forgot.

And you have at least 4-5 cars on you at all times in the higher level drug running missions and the frame rate was certainly not 10.

edit: whoa, meltdown. Maybe instead of blaming us for being imbeciles you should blame yourself for throwing out exaggerated gaf-style troll bait

I've played it for about twenty hours or so and I don't remember anything like that happening to me either. I also got into a huge shootout with several cop cars [some of which exploded] and a helicopter and the frame drop wasn't really that bad.
