I would say Sweden myself.  I love scandinavian art, architecture, and food.  The progressive mindset of the region is also very appealing.  Plus, as an avid cyclist, its very bike friendly.

I'd like to own Colombia and retire there.

Warm weather, great looking women, easy access to coke, and I can raise a private militia at my whim.

Probably Amsterdam.

I'd wake up and eat. Stroll down and smoke some of the best shit on earth. Relax and read the paper. If I was horny, I'd go the the red light district and pick someone who suited my mood for the day. Go back home and eat and dork out with some video games for the night.

Wake up, and do it again.

life is tough.

Some place tropical.  Dunno about someplace like Hawaii; I'm going there for the first time in a few weeks, actually, but I get the feeling living there would kind of suck.  Tourists all over the place non-stop.

Since I would be filthy rich, I would just move around every year. Nothing worse than an old fucker that remembers where everything "used to be".

Somewhere English-speaking, with 4 seasons, in like a gated community where rich people lived and swam and played golf and hired people to do their cleaning and gardening. I'd volunteer at an animal shelter and host dinner parties and take walks with my husband around our private lake.

i own several romanticized views of several places

but if money were no object, i'd probably spend my time travelling

or London/NYC/Paris/Berlin as they all have access to high and low cultures which interest me.

Well, if money was no object I'd:

  • Buy a private island in the Caribbean large enough for a pier, an airstrip, housing and sustainable energy, water and food (I'm going to need to hire a lot of help). Of course I'd also have a megayacht, a couple of speedboats and a jet or two - you know, to get people to and from the island and have some wicked parties. And travel. Sure, why not?

The island would have to be large enough to accommodate an F1-spec racetrack with a modular design so that you can section off and open up parts of the track to make new tracks. It'd have to have a buncha exotic supercars so that the buddies can race around.

  • I'd also have a plot of land in the mountains in South America, along the Andes (landing strip required). High enough to avoid the inevitable effects of global warming and perhaps the odd meteor strike or supervolcano eruption. Of course I'd have a nice pad to live in but also a self-sustainable bunker that would be the envy of Saddam or Dubya. That way I'd ride out the aftermath with relative ease. Buddies would be welcome since it'll be mall-sized.

South America is cheap for most everything and has enough technology infrastructure to keep me happy. Plus, like someone already said about the women...

  • Buy out Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft (I dunno about Intel, Nvidia and AMD but if need be so be it) so those bastards make the OS, games and systems that I want to play. We'd all be playing with Holodeck-like immersiveness within five years. Then I wouldn't give a rat's ass where I retired. With the holodeck I could be in 19th-century England at a whim, doing all sorts of lewd, promiscuous and illegal activities without a worry in the world.

Yes, I can god-damn dream!

Sweden is progressive? How? The Judas government of the nation has done its damndest to make the nation a suck-up slave to the EU, is actively dismantling a social safety system that has been the envy of other nations for decades, and of course blames this on outside forces rather than the states own ability to regulate and moderate (and allowing native companies to sell out ownership and manufacturing to foreign companies after the state built them up, that was a real good idea), and the population of the nation has the most distinguished mentally-challenged, snowed-in view on drugs that you're likely to find in a civilized society. Although "civilized" can certainly be questioned if one was to observe the common Swede on a Friday night. Distance-puking dumbfucks, the god damn lot of them.

Still, I'd likely pick Sweden myself. Far, far fucking north though. And then Sydney in the winters.
