God it looks amazing.

I have such a boner for this kind of art style and interface. Dozens of hyper clean, slickly animated units rolling across the screen with bright, primary colors everywhere.

I kind of dislike how, visually, the game doesn't meld as well as the original Starcraft. It looks nice though!

How do you mean? The art and interface is literally Starcraft in brilliant 3D.

I am seriously in love with this game's look. Every unit and building is like an exquisitely detailed toy. It feels like you could scoop a handful of them off the screen.

I think its the fact that its in 3D now. Maybe I have some rose tinted thing going on with how I remember Starcraft but the 3D models in this game seem to stand out harshly from the environment in some cases (basing it off the above screens). The aliasing seems to give me this feeling, I think. Though, it seems like modern games tend to look much better in motion.

The color pallet and other art aspects (that aren't technical nitpicks) are awesome though. I love the general look of the game.

It's distinguished mentally-challenged in motion. That's the one thing I most distinctly remember from playing it. The move to 3D has upped the animation ante in a noticable way, and it makes the units and the environment feel like one cohesive whole.

The thing to keep in mind is that they are never still. The little idle animations, even something as simple as a ship bobbing in the vacuum, creates this wonderful visual cohesion.

I'm gushing but the game seriously deserves it. SC2 is a perfect example of art direction and attention to detail just trumping the FUCK out of any technical voodoo.

It's probably the same feeling that some Diablo fans have.

Lo-res, prerendered sprites and environments versus high-res full 3D. One looks great in stills, the other looks great in motion.

I think you have to see it in motion. Then it makes sense.

Beat me by 20 sec. Orf.

Definitely have to see an updated vid, if one comes of this Blizzard event. I had a feeling that the aliasing wouldn't be an issue when seen in motion. Good stuff.

OT:

Can you turn off the forum feature that preserves h-scroll by putting a scroll bar underneath the actual pictures? The damn thing is always at the bottom and I don't like the way I have to keep scrolling up and down to see entire pictures.

It is somewhat reminiscent of RoL. Not that that's a bad thing, RoL was an awesome game. Nothing says "awesome" quite like leading a huge army of robots and soldiers against an enemy fortress and then watching as the whole thing is slowly torn apart.

For some reason, these screens just look better than other ones I've seen lately. They don't look like shit.

makes me wanna play rise of legends

every RTS save company of heroes makes me want to play rise of legends. except maybe AOE3.

And yeah while it looks "good" in these screens, it looks amazing in motion. Best art team in the industry + amazing animators = a game that is the digital equivalent of watching hot chocolate fudge pour onto a big scoop of vanilla ice cream.

SC2 confirmed for this year?

I think it's pretty assured it'll be next year. I wouldn't be surprised to see them launch Lich King in November and then put out SC2 in early February (which is actually a time of year when PC sales are seasonally good, everyone's snowed in and looking for something to whittle away the long nights).

I can't wait to see what custom maps pop up since i'll be too bad at the game to play normal multiplayer.

That's what I was thinking. Fuuuuuuuck these look so good. Any word on what the PC requirements will be for this?

I really hope this one is every bit as fast paced as the original.

Diablo 3 looks way better.  SC2 doesn't even look as good as many recent RTS games.
