Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 rullzzzz
« on: June 30, 2008, 04:07:10 PM »
I'm downloading Out of Bounds demo right now. I've liked Mario Golf in the past so I figure I'll like the gameplay, but I don't want to spend $60 on it.

How is Open Tee on PSP? That's only 15 bucks on PSN.

OT2 on PSP. A lot of fun, the first one kept me busy for months and this one is doing the same, so far.

Open Tee 2 is pretty good.  I picked it up based on Prole's recommendation.

I'm not a golf fan but I gave it a chance since there ain't much to play on the PSP.  The game would be a lot more fun if I just know better how to read the greens.

I'll probably just get Open Tee 2. PS3 demo sucks shit.

Does it take hours and hours to unlock some variety in courses or is it better balanced?

Both the PSP games are great.

But I also think the PS3 version is great as well, and it's probably my favorite in the series simply because it looks the best, and the online play is tons of fun.

I'm gonna go for the one with twice as many courses.

I was totally unimpressed by the PS3's demos GFX, and Open Tee 2's online sounds plenty good.

PS3 one lost me completely when it forced advance mode shooting for certain courses. I understand how it works, but shot performance seems entirely arbitrary. I'd rather have stuff like 'crazy gauge' in Open Tee 2

I hated HSG series forever until I got bored and figured i'd pirate Open Tee for PSP. ITS AMAZING. I've been playing it non stop since I first pirated it a month ago. It's the perfect "I have ten minutes of free time" game. It's also so good it's making me OCD, like Titan Quest used to in that I have to explore  / collect EVERYTHIGN before I go onto the next course.

Um

1. It's always about features and modes
2. It's more than a few
3. HSG PS3 looks like shit

Open Tee got me into the series, it's very good and OT2 is more and better.  That said, I'm currently playing HSG5 PS3.  It's my favorite so far.  The difficulty curve is not as severe as OT (which unlocks new courses soooooo slooooooowlllly), and it's quite pretty. I love the advanced shot option, it was a great design choice.  It solved one of my biggest design gripes from OT: once you get better at the game, there's very little need to actually LOOK at the 3d world.  You use it very briefly to line up shots, but the entire rest of the time you're looking at the wind indicator, or the shot power indicator, or the impact indicator... etc.  Since Advanced shots actually requires you to look at your character, you're not looking at the UI all the time.

Is OT2 as slow to unlock as OT is? I saw that complaint in a review for OT but not OT2.

HSG5 needed more content, better reward structure and allowing the game to use whatever control scheme he/she likes.

Its amazing that a PSP game has so much more content than its big brother. Graphics don't make up for bad everything else.

How do you do backspin and shit? Doesn't seem to be a tutorial. I guess I should check the manual.

All of the games use the same spin controls, so it should be the same for Open Tee 2. You Down when your setting the power and Up when your setting Impact (accuracy, basically the second press) to make it do a Power Forward Spin. Do it backwards (Up then Down) to do a Power Backspin. Replace Down and Up for Left and Right to do the respective Power Side Spins.

You need to get a perfect impact to do the power moves though. If your character already has super high spin, you can backspin a ball without doing a perfect impact.

OK thx

Are there normal front and back spins or just Power ones? In Mario Golf, you do BB for normal backspin and BA for super backspin.

This is cool, if you dominate over second place you get to pick an extra card.

What's with all these extra clubs? I just got a squeaker, is that in my regular rotation of pressing L and R or do I have to equip these bonus ones? It seems like you'd be scrolling through 50 if they were all in hand at once.

If you use a Golfer with a S grade for backspins, that means you can achieve strong backspin without having to do a power backspin. Its all in the grades. You add a club thats made for a backspin and that's even more power!

So douchebag pirates are allowed on this board?  Fuck You.  I have no respect for your kind.

In regards to those discussing PS3 Hot Shots.  The game has plenty of unlockables, and it also never forces you to use the advanced shot method.  There are only a few events throughout the entire campaign mode that require that swing type, and I've just skipped them.  No big deal.  They are not required at all to advance through the game.

Yeah, you equip the club before the match.  It adds those stat changes to all of your clubs for the next round.  It's not like it's a new club in your 'bag' that you L/R through during a match.

I think a regular backspin is done by pressing down during impact or pressing it down during the power gauge. Basically, you don't have to worry about hitting twice and getting a perfect impact to do a regular backspin (which may not pull the ball backwards on the green but it will stop it from rolling forward too much)

How do you save your power shot? Or do you always deplete them?

Can you put down the sword and shield for 5 fucking minutes?

Oh, two questions now:
How do you save your power shot? Or do you always deplete them?
And how can I see what my accessories do? The game keeps saying they affect power, control, spin but when I switch between accessories they don't show my bars on screen.

The only way in which it comes up short compared to the portable MG's is you can't walk around on the course or talk to people.

But even with that I'm pretty sure the character upgrades are more in depth and it's deeper in every other way too. Buy this shiz it's so good.

Yea, I think it might be better too. You don't have to run around to figure shit out, you just pick shit off a clean and simple menu sorta like PGR3.

I just figured out the answers to both my questions - none of my accessories currently change my stats so nothing shows, and when you get lvl3 affinity you get power shot recovery

I personally use Power Shots intelligently, meaning, when I'm on a super long course (5 Par) I will probably use it on the drive. But, if I'm on a Par 3 course and think I can get an Eagle or an easier Birdie by using the power shot, I'll use it. Power Shots are also good for getting that extra distance to get over an obstacle that can turn your shot into an Albatross or Eagle.
