Best portable loot?
« on: July 01, 2008, 11:49:28 AM »
I tried this topic over at GAF and ended up with responses like FF:CC and FFTA2. (White Man's and other intelligent responses were appreciated.) So I'll pose the question here: What's the best portable substitute for Diablo's lootin'?

I remember folks around here enjoying Alien Syndrome, iirc. I did try Rengoku 2, and that was pretty strong, but the level design didn't keep my interest for very long.

Candidates from the other thread: Bounty Hounds, MHF2, GBA LOTR RotK, uhh, PSX-PSP Diablo.

Dungeon Siege PSP, put on memory stick to get rid of any loading problems.

Lots of fun.

you could try untold legends. It's not a great game, but it has that loot factor.

Portable Loot should be more prominent. Its better than portable grinding (a la Disgaea PSP)

hm, there's not one truly great portable loot solution, but untold legends 2 is passable if a bit oogly. throne of agony is tolerable as well, as is dungeon explorer (once you get past the huge spate of lame tutorial missions).

Okay, PSX Diablo (by way of popstation) is pretty solid.  The sound's been downsampled a bit, as expected, and a lot of animation was chopped, but they made it work really well.  And it's Diablo!  :punch

Dungeon Siege seems inoffensive enough, except for the awful cutscenes.  It feels more interactive than the PC games, which is a good start!

Patel was telling me a bit back about a PSP roguelike where you built the dungeon yourself, then diablo-ed through it.  He might have more info.  I remember he played it like 20 hours the first week he had it.

You're probably thinking of Dungeon Maker Hunting ground

No love for Untold Legends?  I thought the first game was decent for the time, and second game seemed like a nice improvement.

there is a simple series Rogue clone for PS1 - The Dungeon or something like that. My memory seems to think it was decent... perhaps i should pop station it and find out?

I have that one, and it's actually a really solid direct clone of Rogue.  It's stripped-down, hard, and fun.  It's even got equipment-/item-naming.
