New Yorkers :\
« on: July 01, 2008, 08:57:32 PM »
Saw this in the newspaper today:

Quote
DEAR ABBY: I dress my Siamese cat, "Belle," in clothes and pajamas. (Yes, they make apparel for cats.) I also push her around in a stroller. My friends think I'm crazy, but I consider Belle to be my daughter.

One time, a teenager came up to me as I was pushing Belle in her stroller and asked, "Where's the baby?" I told her that Belle was like my baby.

Is it nuts to treat a cat like a child? -- MOM OF A FUR KID IN N.Y.

I like how, on top of the absurdity of her semi-furry fantasy, she actually gives a pseudonym for the cat. :rofl

My cat would never put up with such patronizing behavior. :punch

Even if she is a sweet widdle baby.

It's not just New Yorkers.  This isn't that unusual.  You'd be surprised at how many childless women treat their animals like this.

Spayed. If your vet has claimed to have neutered your female cat you've been robbed.

Neutering, from the Latin neuter (neither), is the removal of an animal's reproductive organ, either all of it or a considerably large part of it. It is the most drastic surgical procedure with sterilizing purposes. The process is also referred to as castration for males and as spaying for females. Colloquially, it is often referred to as fixing. In male horses, the process is referred to as gelding.

she got the right procedure, i guess the terminology is a bit ambiguous because he said "neutered"

This is what happens when women believe into the Sex and the City myth, where it's OK to sleep around into your 40's and pursue your career at the expense of everything else, never getting married, settling down, having kids... when their biological clock runs out, and they realized they actually did want a kid, they start to humanize their pets.

(you can tell I've been reading too much Roissy :P)

I love my cat like she were a child, but I wouldn't push her around in a stroller.

I did buy her a sweater, but she didn't like it. She kept it on long enough for me to take some pictures, them promptly figured out how to remove herself from it.

I like my mom's cat, because he's completely laid back as all hell.  I can pick him up and pin him against the ceiling and he'll just be like, "hah, cool, I'm on the ceiling."  I think 99% of cats would freak out and shit bricks all over your face.

I thought it was going to be because of this:
Quote
Surveillance video footage inside a New York hospital has shown staff ignoring a patient for an hour after she collapsed and lay dying on the floor.

I thought this was going to be the guy who called to tell me he quit at three in the morning today because he found out his girlfriend was cheating on him and now he's moving back to New York.  She apparently convinced him to move all the way from NYC to Houston so she could cheat on him with an ex.  Wow.
