Alright, time for some straight up ballin REAL TALK up in dis bitch!
I'm a huge OoT fanboy, and I can agree with many of the complaints. But terrible dungeons? Wtf, nicca? I can understand the water temple being frustrating to some people, but the Forest, Shadow and Spirit Temples rocked HARD. Heck, the most irritating aspect of the water temple was the fact that you needed to switch items a lot. But hell, that didn't seem to be too much of an issue with any Gameboy games, where you're constantly switching all the damn time. So other than that, yeah that too was a pretty well designed dungeon.
Also, you can't fault reviewers for praising the game at the time. I mean, it was the first Zelda that appeared in 3D and it made the transition almost flawlessly (talking mechanics wise here, peeps). I can understand how people hate OoT's overworld, but again, at the time, Hyrule Field was very impressive. Nowadays, I would like it if the game did have more enemies and stuff, but back then I didn't care to pay attention to that, as did most people.
So aside from these minor issues, OoT nailed everything else pretty well. Including PACING, one thing that latter Zeldas seem to have difficulty in grasping.
Oh, and regarding LA. I certainly wouldn't say it's anywhere near a bad game (it's great, of course), but I do think it's overrated in the sense that the difficulty and length of the dungeons aren't 'that' much- if at all- more difficult than LttP's. Also, the overworld of LttP never once bothered me either so that's another irrelevent aspect of LA.
Ah, yet another lunch break which I use to respond to messageboard posts rather than actually eat. THANKS A LOT ASSHOLES!
Brave Fencer Musashi on the PS1 was better looking and better playing, and it still is today.
loved BFM, couldn't even be assed to finish the first dungeon with the tree in OoT.
Et tu, Eric? I thought we was bros, g. :'(
